Title: State titles
Post by: Tugg Speedman on March 17, 2013, 01:53:32 AM
Who on the current and incoming roster has won state titles in high school?  Below are all the players that have won a state title or played in the final game.  Please correct any errors.

Juan Anderson - lost in the title game
Vander Blue - Won a state title (junior year)
Davante Gardner - Won a state title (junior year)
Trent Lockett - Won a state title
Todd Mayo - lost in the title game
Steve Taylor - won 3 state titles
Jake Thomas - won a state title
Jamil Wilson - lost in the title game

Jajuan Johnson - won a state title
John Dawson - lost in the state title (earlier tonight)
Duane Wilson - won 2 state titles

-----

When laid out like this it is an impressive accomplishment.

Helped lead Racine's Horlick High School to the state championship game in 2008-09 ...

This is poorly worded as I read it to mean they won the game.

I may be thinking of someone else, but a few years ago didn't Buzz say he wants kids who have only known winning.

I'd say he's found them!

I will make the distinction about Vander.

Question ... Jaymeel McKay is missing becuase I could not find his High School results.  can anyone update?  Did he win or play for a state title?

Here's an article on Dawson and his backcourt mate prior to the championship game.

No.  When Jamel was a senior Milwaukee Pulaski's record was 15-9.  They lost their final game at Racine Case 89-55.  I believe that that last game was a state tournament qualifying game.  Jameel scored 24 points in the loss and averaged 23 points on the year.

You can add Jaymeel McKay to this idea as Indian Hills was NCJAA #3 in the nation and might have won if the fight did not happen.

Shudder!  That sounds like something my sixth grade teacher Sister Claudia would say.
