Just looking at the scholarship table, with O'tule coming back and Jake losing his scholarship we are still one over. Can one of the new guys be "red-shirted" and not count against our scholarship number?
No. Redshirts are on scholly
Thanks, that's what I thought. So who isn't playing next year?(assuming O'tule is coming back)
Buzz will start handing out a rose once a week up until Spring Creaning season.
Also, don't give red shirts or any shirts to prospective students and lie about itm now you know,.and knowing is half the battle.
It's rumored John Dawson is going to be a walk on

Could you be more specific?
NickelDimer's answer of "No" is correct, it's his comment after that which is not true.
Redshirts aren't "given" and aren't related to scholarships. You generally you have 4 years of competition eligibility and a 5 year clock within which you can use those 4 years. Redshirting would be not playing a single second one year.. in other words, a guy could be a walk-on and practice but not play his first year at school. He would thereby "redshirt" and still have 4 years of competition eligibility to use in his remaining 4 years on the 5 year clock.
That said, if someone is on scholarship he is counted against the maximum no matter if he plays or not (limited exceptions, but not applicable in the MU scenario we're discussing). Redshirting is a different discussion.
Ok, thanks

I guess we are 2 over as we still have this Irish kid on the roster.
Hey guys, frequent Scoop reader, don't post much.
I think Ferguson's gone for sure. It kinda sucks because I liked his game the little I saw him, but he just hasn't played at all this year and he'll transfer to a school that'll give him some minutes. Best of luck to him when it happens.

Word, thanks for clarifying

Pretty big leap there...and you're already wishing him best of luck when he leaves?!

Jamal Ferguson isn't coming back. Most would say that he has played ok with the little time he's received. But with the number of guards coming in and Blue and Mayo still here, playing time will still be limited next year anyway. I'd love to see what he'll contribute with playing time. D. Wilson needs to worry about next year also. He may find more splinters in his butt if his offense doesn't improve.

Don't make definitive statements if you don't know for a fact if they are true.

Where are these rumors? First I heard of it. And why would he do that?

I am glad we have some new resident experts on the boards.
Keep your flapper shut about transfers unless you know what you're talking about. No point in speculating.
Alright people are just making stuff up now. All your doing is picking the guy who plays the least and saying he's leaving.
It isn't fair to these kids to make stuff up. There are several different ways that the scholarship situation works itself out. Relax and refrain from throwing our student athletes under the bus.

Just an opinion based on what I see now and future players arriving. I didn't call him a bum or undeserving. I hope he stays and become a great player for us, leaving us wondering why he didn't play his freshmen year. That's ideal for me. Just don't think it will happen.
It's not a stretch to say Ferguson will consider transferring after the year. He had zero chance to play in any meaningful situation this year and the staff that recruited him is now completely gone. Anyone know who the lead recruiter was on him? Was it Aki Collins?

While I agree that people shouldn't report these rumors as if they were facts, what's wrong with discussion and speculation? I don't see it as "throwing our student athletes under the bus" at all. We all know that we need to remove one player from scholarship next year. How this happens is a fair topic for debate, in my opinion. We're all fans of a team with a roster that currently stands at 17 players for next year. Something has to happen to that roster before November, and we have no facts, so we might as well speculate, right?
For the record, I think at least 2 players will change status before next season (transfer, play pro ball -- most likely overseas, decommit, become a walk-on). It could be almost any player on our team. And it wouldn't be out of line with what happens to most teams.
