1) MU giving up wide open threes. Been a problem all year and tonight it bit them in butt
2) Turnovers were terrible, especially in first half. Lockett had five alone.
3) Buzz seemed to have the "sub-machine" going on full force tonight. Never a set lineup in, seemed crazy at times.
4) What happened with Steve Taylor???? He did not see the floor in the second half and MU was getting spanked on boards, especially offensive.
Nice regular season, but this one was a disappointment after the 17-4 start to game.
bottom line, lots of weaknesses
Peed down their leg last year, crapped in their pants tonight
I think the sub-machine was on because Buzz was hedging his bets against an injury.

#1 and 2 definitely hurt us AGAIN.....The TO's are very frustrating with this team, if they could just play with more ball security and tighter passing.....UGGHH
Let's Go Warriors!!!
Lockett was a nightmare. When he is off, boy is he off. But, he is a glue piece when he plays well. Buzz has to pick up on it earlier.
Mayo may be my least favorite player in recent MU history. I hate to say it, but everything about him stinks. His play. His attitude. All of it.
Taylor has to play more in these type situations. I don't get it.
Kudos to ND for fighting back and taking MU out of its game.
Burr blows.
Lockett was terrible, we tried Mayo a bit and he was bad, too. Would have liked to see us go to Cadougan/Blue/Taylor/J Wilson and Otule or Gardner for a run.
We start off good against Gtown - look lost rest of game
We start off good against Louisville - look lost rest of game
We start off good against ND - look lost rest of game
Often times this year we start off the game executing well and then can't do much of anything for several spurts throughout the rest of the game - win or lose.
said that early on - when they start well, it usually means doom...

They were up big against butler early too. When they get a nice lead, then the head scratching turnovers start happening. Then there are usually some puzzling lineups out there.

I know no one really brings it up because it doesn't beat you over the head, but whenever we took Cadougan out and played D Wilson we just stopped running any kind of offense. Dude doesn't turn it over, but he just kills the offense. When was the last time you thought, "Nice pass" from D Wilson? Not a good trait from a PG.

Mayo is just not the player many hoped he would be. I think we all were expecting a little more.

They really didn't play much differently than they have all year (except for not getting to the free throw line) it's just this time the other team made them pay dearly for their mistakes.
Yes, offend totally stalls when d Wilson is in. When he comes in, all offensive rhythm comes to a halt and it takes awhile to find it again. Of course, buzz takes out junior because his defense can be poor, but in the tourney he needs to ride junior.
And I don't get why Anderson plays as often as he does. Why was he going under the screens on connaughton? Why didn't buzz see that and put someone else on him?
Lockett is mr turnover.

Yeah, but at least he's selfish and a bad student, too.

Yep, If Cadougan plays in the NCAAs like he did tonight you only take him out for a minute before an official time out. Can't afford dry spells with D Wilson in there in the Big Dance.
someday Buzz will narrow his lineup.... maybe when it matters in a game situation...
Mayo offers little except for the occasional big game shots. He plays decent D, but gets abused by big men. He dribbles WAY to much into traffic only to get caught. He needs to be that fast break spark for him to be effective.
Derrick spells Junior but man, you can leave him open ALL DAY because he won't shoot the ball. More effective taking it to the hoop but he doesn't have any explosiveness to get by his defenders.
DG's been a money man on the offensive end, but he was getting worked on the defensive end: hedging but not getting back; burned on pick and rolls; can't defend a bigger man with post moves; gives up ground when he should be taking it.
The four guys who have really keep the MU ball rolling: Vander, Junior, Otule, and Jamil. Jamil showed flashes of why he was highly recruited. But he hasn't strung together 40 minutes of it. Vander's come the closest. Junior and Chris were big.
Marquette University scored fewer points than University of Notre Dame
Buzz sat Otule and Gardner way too long after early fouls. One of them must be on the court and in the paint. AT ALL TIMES, to open up our offense. They get a combined 10 fouls and only used 2 apiece. Poor Job Buzz
MU's offense came to a complete halt when Otule and Gardner both sat in the first half. This year, the team just doesn't play small-ball well. They quit moving, they quit getting the ball into the paint. Lockett and Mayo were bad. I was wondering about the lack of STjr.
No paint touches killed us. Resulted in not going to the line enough as well as a lot of 1 on 1 play. When we settle for jumpshots, we're in trouble. Tells me we're not aggressive enough to get the ball into the paint.
They put up a good stat at the beginning of the game about PT and the difference in shooting percentage was +11 or 12% greater when we get the ball in the paint. Gardner needed to get the ball down the stretch, IMO, and when they kinda sorta started doing that towards the end, he went to the line twice.
I don't attribute that as an ND win more than I attribute it as a Marquette loss. Marquette just stopped doing the things that makes them successful.

I agree, every time we take a jump shot from distance, I think "No," but at the same time I think that ND really packed it in and made penetration difficult and made the open 15-20 foot jumpers very inviting to take. You have to give them credit for a good defensive game plan.

This always bothers me too. After they both got 2 quick fouls, neither of them got another foul the rest of the game. There's 2 of them, it's not a big deal if one of them fouls out. Keep playing Otule and take your chances because Gardner is more important at the end of the game.
Really wish we adjusted defensively against Connaughton similarly to how did against Kilpatrick. Maybe not faceguard him as dramatically, but leaving him consistently wide open like we did is just plan stupid.
It is hard to imagine how Buzz watched the night before and saw Connaughton do the same thing the night before, so are the players that stupid as I have to believe that in the
scouting report it had to say, stop Connaughton and you win the game? How about the out of bound play that left him wide open? Serious defensive flaws last night. Secondly, you
can not win with Lockett and Derrick Wilson in the game. Lockett only looks to drive so he can lose the ball, when does he learn, he has been doing it all year. Time to take a jump
shot?

"I really don't like Marquette. I just don't," Cooley said. "I really don't like them. I wanted to make sure that we won this game. I wanted to seal it. And what really upset me was there was a play where I should have got (a rebound), but (Chris) Otule sat on my head. And that just pissed me off. I had to play angry and that just helped me play a lot better."

Knight, Connaughton, Sherman and Grant were why ND won - Cooley wasn't the factor.

Three of his offensive rebounds turned into 7 ND points (2 put backs and an assist on a Conaughton 3).
God help us if he had played that way all night. We would have lost by 20.
