Title: Dominic James !
Post by: Murffieus on September 03, 2007, 09:34:19 AM
Did you notice that in the 4 games in Canada that DJ was 7 for 18 from the perimeter (39%, and that with the extended International arc))----those of you who saw the scrimmage last week are aware of his new form-------hmmmmmmm!

He's now releasing the ball from the tip of his head rather than from well behind his forehead as he was the last several years----this gives him a better ball working for him as he gets a push motion rather than throw motion.

This is the single most important TEAM improvement that can be made over last year-----because he (and McNeal & Mathews) won't be facing the collapsing defenses of last year as much----they will have to deal with us on the perimeter!

Also his assist total was out of sight!

I noticed the same thing Murffieus - James looks like he has much better shooting form this year.  A lot of his missed shots last year were long.  His release point was really far back & he jumped as high as he could = tough to control distance.  Looking forward to improved shooting this year (we hope)

I haven't personally seen James' new form yet, but I agree that his old form wasn't really textbook.

IF he has revamped his form and has increased success, well, that's awesome for him and the team.

However, while DJ did miss badly on some attempts last year, I still think he was an adequate shooter with poor shot selection and was also forced to take shots with no time on the shot clock.

I think improved shot selection will increase his shooting &. Now, if he has improved his form a little bit AND improved his selection, you could see a pretty big jump in shooting %.

I guess all I'm saying is, while his form wasn't perfect before, I think its not the sole reason for his low shooting %. I think poor selection could account for maybe 5-10% of his misses. Tough to prove this number, I'm just going off of what I saw/remember.
