Butch Lee, Whitehead, and Jimmy Mac all mentioned - ouch.

What? No Chris Crawford? Again, Marquette getting less pub than "deserved"!
I heard a story once that Mac never really loved playing basketball that much, but when he was at Racine St. Catherine's he realized he could get a scholarship, so he played through and got to MU, where he eventually realized he could get drafted. Then when he was in the NBA he took charge of his contract negotiations to get a front-loaded high guarantee contract as soon as he could, played it out and quit, having made his $.
from whom?
Center Jim McIlvaine apparently has discovered he's not wild about basketball. He reached agreement with the Nets on a buyout for the final two years of his contract, worth $12.6 million (he'll get about $7.0 million).
"He's not coming back [and] we will be waiving him," team president/GM Rod Thorn said. "Jim's interests lay elsewhere. Last year, he was injured and when he wasn't, he was not a real factor."
McIlvaine played in 18 games and averaged 10.7 minutes. Said Scott, "It's just a personal opinion, he's a guy who doesn't really enjoy the game of basketball. Why have him here? It's like torture."
On side note Im suprised that he gave up that much of his contract? Most guys want 80-90 %.

I don't think Crawdad's contracts were that ridiculous - considering what the NBA has done.

'03 he earned 3 mil - started in 25 games and played in 56, averaging 10.2/game. Not too bad.
It wasn't a "source" just a story I heard once. It could easily be a story after the fact that explains what happened and not real. It was interesting that's all
i know he likes water sports...i give a guy a lot of credit for not needing the fame or attention of the nba, but rather knowing what he loves and doing it. not many benefits to being his height if you can't make some $$$ in the league...worked out well for him, and i love having him on mu radio. always seems like such a class act.
