So while watching the Mu-Rutgers game the other night, I saw my favorite ref in the world Jim Burr and started thinking, what happens to the current Big East refs? I would love to not have to see Burr again in the future.
Anyone have any ideas on what might happen with them or any speculation? I'm sure this is one of those details that is way down the list of priorities for the C7 to figure out.
Refs are not tied only to a conference. Many refs work many major conferences.
Jim Burr will be a ref forever, at least until death. Maybe we can place his taxidermied body behind glass at the Al McGuire Center in a lifelike pose.

There's nothing lifelike about him. He's a crusty ole bag of crap.
In recent years, more than half of Burr's games have been in the BEast. He'll probably be good for 5 or 6 MU games next year. And forever.
Jeez, maybe I'm softening with age but Burr, as crazy as he has made me multiple times in the past, doesn't seem to have been as bad as usual this year.
He's not even #1 on my list any more - Karl Hess has taken over that spot. He is the most officious official imaginable.

No, I think you're right. Considering his low ability, he has performed fairly decently.
Is there a mandatory retirement age and minimal physical requirements or should there be? Or do we wait until he codes on the hardwood?

I've noticed it too (I think)... I think he's just blowing the whistle less unless it's blatant just to stay out of the limelight. His buddy Higgins got the heave-ho, so I think he's keeping a low profile to keep the gravy train coming.
John Cahill has always been my least favorite.

He's terrible. Unfortunately, we've seen a lot of Hess, Driscoll, and Gaffney this season. All three have been bad.

Referees are self-employed. Essentially as long as teams and conferences keep contracting with them to do games, they will continue to be employed.
Their schedules are insane. Here is an example:

I guess if that's the case, the Powers That Be can pick and choose which of the old BEast refs they want calling their games next year.
Perhaps they can subtly bring this to the refs' attention before the Big East Tourney. nudge, nudge, wink wink....

I take it then, that they have a lot of personal choice in how many games they work. If someone has an insane schedule, that would be their own choice.
Also I would be willing to work a crazy schedule like this for five months in the winter if that meant I got the rest of the year off.

I understand the desire for such a schedule...not sure Mrs. Sultan would agree however.

I am an empty nester now, so that part wouldn't be an issue....but it would mean that jsglow would be eating a lot of Lean Cuisines for dinner....

We are empty nesters too, but apparently Mrs. Sultan still wants me around on a semi-regular basis.
