No postseason bans, but four years' probation, recruiting limitations, loss of scholarships, banned from pre-season tournaments.
In before "Gonzaga will surely bail on them and join the C7 now!"
Seems like some pretty serious sanctions, including show-cause status for a former assistant. Not good.
Saint Mary's will still be allowed to participate in the league tournament and the NCAA tournament but can't play in preseason or in-season tournaments that it is not already contractually obligated to attend. The team also will have a reduction in scholarships from 13 to 11 for the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons and an elimination of all foreign tours until the start of the 2017-18 season.
Cutting the schollies will hurt the team if they're hurt and can't recruit the talent necessary to suit up a talented team that's supposed to challenge the Zags.
You gotta wonder though if the in-roads to Oz have already been laid and this won't affect it.
I have not imagined that these sanction would be so serious. But may be they have done it for some good cause or betterment of game.
