Reasons for inclusion-solid program and fan base, close proximity
Reasons for exclusion-bottom 1/2 of A-10 this year, doesn't improve the overall league quality, too close to Xavier, not connected with a significant media market, stupid nickname
I vote for exclude. Both Creighton and SLU bring much more to the conference.
This has been discussed only slightly less than whether Crean is a douche or not in the past 2 months...
Fucking exclude. I'll get in-depth tomorrow when I'm in front of a keyboard.
Exclude, but if its between them and VCU, then Dayton all the way
Why the fk would you share money with them? Not deserving, why is this a question?
Dayton Who?

Why is it a stupid nickname? Wright brothers opened up shop in Dayton, are buried there. Wright-Patterson Air Firce Base is there, the Airforce Museum (which is worth the trip) is there, etc.
Out.

One NCAA win since 1990 says otherwise.

I spent a weekend in Dayton a couple weeks ago and can tell you that that city is really wrapped up in being the home of Orville and Wilbur. It's everywhere. I hadn't realized. I didn't know that they are the source of the "Wright" in "Wright State University" and "Wright-Patterson AFB." I can only assume that it is also the source of UD's nickname.

GREAT nickname. Way better than Golden Eagles and arguably better than Warriors as it is more unique and specific to their location. It is not better than Golden Avalanche which is the nickname we should have returned to. But I digress.
I vote for Dayton in. I'm old enough that I have fun memories of the 80's independents going at each other. It was fun. Plus they are a Midwestern Catholic school and I will always support Midwestern Catholic schools.
Out.
Out. Out. Out Out.

I say out.
I don't think you can ask this question in isolation. If there are only 9 or 10 teams? Definitely out. If the league expands to 12 in 2014 and the choices are St. Louis, Dayton and Richmond, I would take Dayton over Richmond. If VCU or Gonzaga are available in that scenario I would take either one ahead of Dayton. It's not as simple as yes or no.
I don't even have the effort to justify why Dayton is terrible.
I'll keep this simple.
Dayton Athletic Department would have top 5 revenue in the New Big East. However, their expenditures would be bottom 3 in the New Big East.
They don't spend on their program, they don't reinvest the money back into the program, they cannot pay a coach enough to stay and they are complacent with their success. This is why Dayton will always be a mid-major.
After X, Butler and Creighton, no great options.
Dayton, St Louis, VCU, Richmond, maybe Davidson - How much does it really matter which two are selected? I think you do whatever makes the current membership happy, and I think that should be one midwest school and one eastern school. And if that's the case, you take Saint Louis for the market, and let the Eastern schools pick who they want from among the others.
Depends on the options
If we get the C-7 plus Butler, Xavier and Creighton.... Out!!!!!!!
If we get the Aforementioned -10 and go to 12, St. Louis for sure. Then it comes down to VCU, Richmond, Gonzaga and Dayton. This Warrior wants Gonzaga!
If we go to 12, the divisions would look like this
Continental Division
Warriors
DePaul
Xavier
Butler
St. Louis
Creighton
Coastal Division
Georgetown
Villanova
St.John's
Providence
Seton Hall
Richmond
If we go to 14, I would add Dayton to the Coastal Division and Gonzaga to the Continental Division
Question for everybody.........
Why is every person here so set on getting 10 + members in the new league? Why would you water down the league with talks of VCU, Dayton, Detroit, and everyone else you guys are naming.
Why not keep it at 9 or 10 IF you get creighton? I don't see any positive scenarios when you add more schools just to become more and more like the A10. Can anybody answer why it makes sense to add more than 10 schools? Thanks.
Is it because of Fox sports?

What does video of Mike Montgomery in a pigtail have to do with Dayton?

But, Gonzaga is close to a coast.

Yep. Seems like most ADs, Presidents, and fans are good with 10. But if Fox wants 12 and Fox wants to pay a premium for 12, nobody has a reason to say no that is better than the money to say yes.
