Title: Start times with new conference/TVpartner
Post by: MUMonster03 on February 28, 2013, 08:24:56 AM
Does anyone know who controls the start times of the games? Is it the conference or the TV partner?

Just wondering since the 7ET start for Monday's game was on the early side for being a home game since it was only 6 in Milwaukee. The 9ET start time is also brutal for east coast games/fans since many times the games last until well after 11 (especially if you have to go somewhere to watch the game).

If this is a TV partner thing hopefully the new partner will take this into consideration since we would be their one marquee college basketball property and wouldn't be competing against all the other contracts that ESPN has with conferences, because I assume they do this to be able to squeeze in two games on a weeknight with 7/9ET start times.

Maybe 8ET starts will work with the new TV partner when the conference starts since they could space one game a night out across the week.

it is all TV.  The 6pm start has been a big Monday tradition for the BE for 25+ years.  The conference started with only east coast teams.  We typically do get more 8pm starts cause of the timezone we are in compared to the east coast teams

If they are trying to have back to back games 6 and 8 central are the only two that work.  Any later and the second game will start 9 central and 10 eastern then eastern teams aren't getting done till midnight and thats two late in my opinion.

6 and 8 CST times are far from ideal.  However, I agree that is the only real option with 2 games in a night.  It would be great if they spread games out over all weekdays with a 7 CST start time.  But this isn't about the fans attending the games, unfortunately.

The C7 has 2/7 CST teams, and the new conference will be at most 4/12.  Y'all will have to adjust to God's time, EST.
