Title: How?!

"How you gonna block out Davante Gardner? How you gonna block out the guy who blocks out the sun?" - Jay Bilas

Shouldn't it be whom, Mr. Bilas? Too much poor grammar in college basketball...they should change the rules.

Seems like we always lose with Bilas in attendance.  Overcame that, plus the baby blue jerseys.  Nice!

Ps: I have no idea which is correct. Bilan is just an errogant @$$

And on national TV ... Good things happen in threes.

In Bilas' defense, he was grammatically correct. Who in his sentence wasn't the object of a preposition, where whom would be appropriate.

I agree he comes off as somewhat pompous, but he generally at least has intelligent things to say about the basketball game.

Don't mind his game analysis, just needs to stop the broken record of telling everyone what the off the court rules should be.

Why would anybody rush the court after beating the #12 team in the nation? Great win, but really...

Couple people on the ESPN boards said that it was lame that MU rushed the court.  Im streaming the game and it cut to the ISU-KU game and didnt see.  I wanted to know from someone who was there if they actually rushed the court.

And that's my problem with him. Did you know that most charge calls should be blocks? He makes sweeping statements about the game of basketball as a whole, and doesn't say much else.

If so they waited until after I left...I snapped a couple pics of the scoreboard for this scrapbook thing my wife does and there was no rushing going on. That was a couple minutes after the final whistle.

He makes an* interesting point. He says there should be more charges one every single 50/50 call. Listen for it. Him and Raftry oppose every call on the court.

Since ESPN cut to the ISU-KU game as soon as the game ended, how would anyone on the ESPN boards know if they rushed the court?

I'm impressed with your mental capabilities that include channeling the entire student sections thought processes. Besides the point, excellent showing from the entire crowd tonight.

why would anyone rush the court beating any top ranked team? The only time it is appropriate within the bounds of dignity is winning it all. Otherwise it is unseemly.

No he doesn't. Bilas actually has said repeatedly that he thinks charges are called too often. Especially when it is an off ball defender that comes in to take the charge. He's pretty consistent on this point.

In tonight's broadcast he said he wouldn't complain about a block being called over a charge, because the charge is called too often. He also made the comment that they shouldn't call an offensive foul if the defender gets beat and contact is initiated when the defender is beside or behind the ball handler.

I am with you on Bilas. He doesn't state the obvious, he doesn't repeat the obvious over and over, he doesn't kiss a$$, he offers informed insight, and he isn't afraid to say the emperor is nekkid. I would take Bilas every time.

Someone pointed out we usually lose when Bilas is on the broadcast. Isn't that because he is on the A Team and does the marquee games? We often lose in baby blues and with Bilas at the mike because those are the toughest match ups against the best competition. I liken Bilas to Madden, in quality and tenor of his insight.

Students rush the court. If a team "wins it all" there won't be any students seated close enough to the court to rush it. So you are basically saying that it is never appropriate to rush the court.

I recall an impromptu storming down WI Avenue after Marquette won it all. Since most of us were in class and not the Omni the party spilled out of the dorm TV rooms and into the streets. It was the need for beer which caused the crowd to begin its inexorable movement down the street towards the lake.

So you recall us winning it all in 77? That would make you a pretty old TACP in 2001-2002.

I am assuming you know something about this world...I did UPT at Vance then more AETC fun at Hill/Luke. I am an 11F3 with A10, F16, and EA6B shred outs. Left AD and did the corporate thing. Flew with the Hooligans while getting my MBA but that ended when I got sent off shore. Went back in on a waiver after 9/11 with a 12 year break in service. My father was a two-star, flew F100s, Thud Weasels, F4Gs. Had command of Pair-o-Dice among other things. His exec was a 2 star when I went back in so my package had GO sponsorship. Transitioned to the Hog at DM then became an ALO along the way (but never became a 13L.) Assigned to ASOS's at Hood and Lewis in support of I Corps and III Corps. Was CAS Chief for III Corps during The Surge - if you really know this world reach out to BG Mark McDonald who was Odierno's Red Leg DCG-Fires & Effects for OIF 06-08. He will remember me by my call sign - Crash. Made O-6 after that deployment and my last assignment was as Vice of an ASOG. Last hop was over the UTTR where I pickled 6 of 6. Wife was never comfortable with all of the deployments and after I made O-6 she became very ill and asked me to do something that would allow me to be there for her. Besides, most of the fun ends once you make Colonel.

Still run 6-8 miles then lift weights for at least an hour each and every day. A former wingman, BG Mongo Stroud, recently retired as 162FW CC. Mongo played football at Duke and at the age of 56 still runs a sub 30 minute 6. 4 of us old war horses went climbing in Moab over the holidays and found we are still able to climb those rock faces as we did in our 20's.

That explains it. 12 year break is pretty significant.

While on the topic of storming the court... While I am against storming the court after a big win, I'm all for it if we win the Big East. I remember being on the court after beating Cincy to win C-USA and the students were carrying Wade on their shoulders. Obviously we don't finish at home so it won't happen, but I would be all for storming after winning the league
