Title: MU double bye clinch scenario
Post by: muguru on February 24, 2013, 05:29:43 PM
If MU wins tomorrow night and wins on Saturday, and Nova somehow loses @ SH tomm night(unlikely), or @ Pitt Next Sunday(likely), MU will clinch no worse than the 4 seed in the BET.

Only game that I am confident in is @ Rutgers, top 4 would be great--however I will plan accordingly for the #5-8 seed tv time slot.

If we use your assumption that we go 1 - 3 in the final four.  We finish 11 - 7.  11 victories and you think their will be SEVEN TEAMS ahead of us (5 to 8)?  Everyone plays everyone else, so they will all lose to each other so I'm not sure dropping to 8 is even possible.  Even if we go 10 - 8 and might not be lower than a 5 or 6 seed, and maybe even higher?

I am pretty confident they will win 3 of 4. Finishing 2-2 with a 12-6 record would hardly be a huge deal, but the 6-8 seed becomes much more realistic.

A big W tomorrow erases alot of questions in a hurry.

My point was we should receive a bye (#5-8) not a double bye (#1-4). Never said we would be #8.  With respect to THIS double bye scenario thread---there is little difference between a #5 or a #8--they are both single byes.

We could go 4-0 and we could go 0-4.  Only game that I feel confident in is Rutgers---and I might say would feel even better about that one if it were at the BC.

Why?  You must not have been following along, but winning on the road is easy.  All the best teams do it.

#9 and #10 are single byes this year too, and we've already clinched that.

So.....MU has the 2nd longest home winning streak in the country and your not confident they can't at least split the two this week(I think they win out personally)?? It must be a pretty depressing life you live.

Depressed?  uh.....no. Realistic....yes.

As I stated above, this team go go 4-0 or 0-4, not confident in any reamining game......except for Rutgers.

Beat ND and win 3 of 4 to clinch a top 4 seed.  That would give ND 6 losses, UConn is out, and everyone else besides GU, SU, UL, and MU already has 6 losses.

Win 2 with 1 being ND and Nova gets 1 more loss we finish top 4.  As we would hold tiebreakers over Pitt and ND

At least we're not Cincinnati. Head over to their boards for some real doomsday scenarios.

Top teams still have more losses coming ... 5 or 6 losses for the top teams still a real possibility.

SU still plays at GU = loss for one of them
SU plays UL at home = loss for one of them
ND still plays at UL = loss for one of them
Nova still plays at Pitt = Nova Loss?
GU plays at Nova = loss for one of them

Agreed, but forget about all that.  If MU wins 3 games including ND then they will have a top 4 seed.  The rest of it will take care of itself.

100% agree ... just saying a loss tonight is not good and makes things tougher, but not the end of the world, as the enviable posts would say if we lose.

A loss tonight is not ideal of course, but it's not that big a deal.  It's the hardest of our 4 remaining games and we're sitting pretty if we win 3 of 4 even if the loss is tonight.  That puts us at 13-5, at worst alone in 4th place.  It would have been nice to win the conference, but I'll take top 4.
