Title: Big East vs SEC challenge
Post by: Galway Eagle on February 21, 2013, 09:54:42 AM
Does anyone know if the C7+ whoever are pursuing the rights to that conference challenge or is what's left of the Big East keeping it?  And if they are do who do you think that the C7 + whoever should make a conference challenge with?

How about the Mountain West....?  Some very good teams there.

I would think thats the last thing on their minds after figuring out membership, tv deal, and the actual name.  Interesting though if the C7 do keep the Big East name, would they automatically get the challenge?  Having said that, I would doubt the SEC would want to continue the series with the new Big East if they have to.

True, but I'm guessing that they need to show how many yearly marquee games they have when figuring out TV deals.  And I agree, I think the SEC would end it which is why I'm curious about who else would make a good challenge.

I kinda like that. Does the pac12 have a conference challenge?

C7+ vs. Old Big East castoffs (UConn, Cincy, Tulane, Temple, et al).

;D

I don't think so--Katz made a suggestion in his Three Point Shot a few weeks back that the Pac12 and MWC should set up a challenge, which would make a lot of sense (they already play a lot of non-conference games against each other).

But, it would be great to see the new conference get in on a challenge with the MWC or Pac12--particularly against the Pac12 would give some instant legitimacy to the conference.  Maybe Fox could help facilitate something with the Pac12?

Personally, as a Colorado resident and a CU law alum, I'd love to see Marquette come out to Boulder sometime (or Fort Collins, Cheyenne, or Colorado Springs if it is with the MWC).

Pretty sure it was announced that the SEC/BEAST challenge was dead after this season. I'm sure once the new league is announced they will set up some kind of challenge with another league. MWC would be cool, also think P12 would be good, however I think those 2 are in talks to start their own challenge. Honestly, who knows after this year what will happen. This is probably so far down the list it's not even on the radar of any of the decision makers right now.

C7/ACC Challenge. Keep some of the rivalries alive.

Now that's an interesting idea I'd like to see.  Unfortunately it'd heavily conflict with the B1G/ACC challenge.

While MWC/C7 would be better for the hoop fans like us, I'd rather the chance to beat up on the Pac10 since it's a BCS conference.  Pairing up with the MWC or an A10 out the gate casts the C7 in a mid-major light in the casual fans eyes.

A10 challenge would really suck after we poach there best teams.  At least with the MWC theres always three great teams.

We lost both games in SEC challenge, and that sucks more than beating an A-10 team.

C7/ACC Challenge. Keep some of the rivalries alive.

It would be great if a raided ACC took their ball and went home (from the Big Ten).  A C7 - ACC would be great

(I'm assuming UNC & UVa bolt)

Gtown-Cuse (this might actually move the needle)
St John's-Pitt (NYC vs NYC! Len Elmore on the mic!)
Providence-BC (we'll telecast that one on the Ocho)
Seton Hall-Clemson (Now live on ESPN 9)
Nova-NC State (2 schools that shouldn't have NCAA titles, now on ESPN2!)
MU-UConn (I've added in them in place of UNC and bc we have an usually high degree of success against them)
De Paul-Duke (Let's give Coach K a Chicago recruiting trip and an easy win all at once, maybe he says yes then)
X-Cinci (I've added them in place of UVa, it's the worst academic trade ever)
Butler-Wake (two small schools, one that knows how to win)
SLU-Miami (all the excitement of a Cardinals-Marlins game)
Sienna-Ga Tech (The Battle of Paul Hewitt!)
Detroit-Va Tech (Va Tech seems like the Detroit of the ACC...that's not a compliment)

Mountain West is the #1 rated conference in the country this year by RPI.  They are doing extremely well.

Wouldn't this matchup be NYC vs Pittsburgh?

Totally agree--and I love seeing the MWC doing well.  Once the C7 split off, I was really glad when the whole Boise/SDSU to the Big East blew up, because it meant that the MWC will probably be the best conference outside of the Big 5 in football, and keep them as one of the top 6 or 7 conferences in basketball--after realignment, I think that they will be ahead of the Big East remnants and the A10, and arguably could be on a similar level as our new conference.

But, unfortunately, I still think that most living outside of the MWC footprint don't recognize it as a top conference yet (only 4 teams currently projected to make the tourney, despite having great computer numbers), and so for the C7s perspective, I think it'd be better to have the rivalry with the Pac12, for the wider exposure.

Realized I completely forgot Louisville & ND so we'll have to go to 14
Sienna & Detroit are a joke...I was afraid to enter the Gonzaga-Dayton-Creighton Love Triangle

Some have speculated that if Fox gets the BE7+5, they would do a challenge w/the PAC-12 since Fox also owns the rights to them.  Pretty easy since both conferences would have 12 teams.

That. Would. Be. Awesome.

Solidifies some exposure for West Coast recruits to the BE teams.
