Title: Seton Hall game thread
Post by: real chili 83 on February 19, 2013, 05:55:59 PM
Pirates. Arrrrrh. Shiver me timbers. Walk the plank. Tie em to the yard arm.  Hoist the jib.  Keel haul them.  Feed the parrot some more rum.

Go Warriors!  Arrrrrrrrrrrh!

Anderson needs to sit for a bit - too hyped up and playing out of control.

What's our aversion to touching the rim? Anderson should have jammed that ball, not put up a weak lay up.

It's nice he made the three, but everything else Anderson did was pathetic.

Those two together looked good playing that 3-2 zone on defense against Pitt.  Not looking so good against the Hall offensively though.

MU is 5 for 17 from field with seven turnovers.

Mayo, Otule and DG each have three turnovers and they are ugly.

J. Wilson can't hit the side of a barn.

D. Wilson missed a wide open shot and is 1 for 18 in BE play.

SH has made 3 wide open 3's.

Our defensive rotations aren't even that bad. They just clearly have no interest in shooting anything but the 3 so we may want to rethink the D here....

Title: Re: Seton Hall game thread
Post by: nyg on February 19, 2013, 06:58:44 PM
Just terrible ending.  MU was up 27 to 20, then a blowup.

SH shooting 25% from field, getting destroyed on boards and the game is tied.

Junior zero points, two fouls.

Mayo zero points, two turnovers, and a bad foul.

Anderson, made a three pointer to start, after that ugly.......

DG, only four points all from the line.  Has not made a shot and two turnovers.  When he is doubled teamed he must pass out faster.

To be a fly on the locker room wall.  Buzz takes off tie and now will take off some heads.

Glad I made it to the thread just in time for overreactions.

This game is clear evidence of why we need to recruit Big East veteran freshman to our team.

Fans wanting to see their team tighten up the sloppiness isn't an over reaction.

That last minute was a microcosm of their road troubles this season.

My point, if people can learn to read in context, is that you can't consider them a title contender if they play badly like the first half. Or like the first half in Cincy. Or like the entire games in Gainesville or Green Bay. Or like the last 15 minutes of Ville and Georgetown.

Five of their six losses are down to very bad road performances. Why is it such a shock to be wary of their credentials?

GB was bad.   Conference road losses happen.   Protect home court, squeeze out .500 on the road, contend for a title.   Yes, MU has had some brutal stretches on the road.   After today, they are 3-3 on the road in conference.    And contending for a title.

See, this is the problem: it's hardly a condemnation to say this team needs to tighten up its game if it wants to win on the road.

Unless, of course, you considered that half well played.

First off, you said it makes you laugh at the thought of competing for the Big East conference title. This says, to me, you don't watch a lot of Big East basketball. How many teams really play 2 or even 3 good halves in a row? Be honest. Especially on the road. Basketball is a game of stunning inconsistency, momentum, and luck (home field advantage). Only the absolute best teams put together games like that consistently, if at all. And if you hadn't noticed, even they aren't with so many top 5 teams losing.

But good teams win these games. Just like we did, or Kansas has, or Butler has, or Miami has.

Use the entire quote. I wrote "if they play this badly on the road" as well as the bolded during the first half. Don't be lazy and leave out the main point of my statement.

And, you strangely referenced a Kansas team that owns arguably the worst conference road loss of any program this season.

It doesn't matter you're still wrong. And watching college basketball makes you realize how many teams are like Marquette and play Dr. Jerkyll vs Mr. Hyde every game.We are not  great team. But we are a good team that wins the games it should. Besides GB, there is not a bad loss on this team. We have won the games we're supposed at a remarkable rate lately and the 23 straight home wins speaks for itself.

I;m more annoyed with the idea that every other BEAST team must be playing "such consistent basketball that we can't hope to compete with them' insinuation. They're not. Every team is beatable every game.

Yeah...and that's the Kansas that will win its ninth straight conference title. You think TCU is the only bad loss they've ever suffered in conference play? Jeez.

Jeez.

Keep passing that second level and head on down to the third level. No wonder humanity is doomed.
