Thanks for the info!  This isn't the best of news, but I'm still optimistic that Maryland will only have to pay $20M at most.  I don't think any conference additions/realignments will happen until this case is settled.  Am I alone in rooting for the ACC to implode?  Am I too optimistic in thinking that the implosion of the ACC will make traditional bball schools (Memphis, UCONN, Temple, Cincy, etc) realize that the SEC-fashioned, football-drives-the-bus mentality was a mistake?

anybody hear coach Ks comments after they lost to Maryland about that game not being a rivalry?

Something to the affect of "If it were a rivalry they wouldnt be leaving to the Big Ten"

funny stuff...

Coach K is delusional if he thinks anything about basketball impacts conference realignment.

As I read here (can't remember/too lazy to find out who to attribute), Coach K is nothing but a whiny hypocrite.  Teams defecting their long-standing conference affiliation was good and exciting to him when Pitt and Syracuse announced their departure to the ACC, but for some reason Coach K now feels the need to speak out against realignment because he might be affected.  Nothing to see here, just another waste of time from someone who can't be respected on the topic.

Initially I was hoping for an ACC implosion thinking it would help us out but with the C7 bolting and the current landscape, I don't think it matters one way or another.  If the ACC gets gutted and they lose 6 programs, they will just pick and choose the best of the remaining Big East football schools so Cincy, UConn and maybe South Florida, Temple will replace those that left and they will be fine.

Regardless, we won't be getting a Duke or Boston College to drop their football programs or park it elsewhere and join the C7.  Our best hope is to pick the right programs that are willing to elevate their programs to another level commitment wise.

IF UNC leaves.  The ACC might be "fine"  but it will be a complete shell of what it once was.

Our best hope is that somehow ND realizes the ACC isn't for them and the C7+ is. Beyond that, I agree none of this affects us much.

Actually Coach K and others were upset with the ACC when it went from 9 schools that played a true round robin to the bloated Va Tech-Miami-BC version it is today.  Now he's smart enough to not whine too much about Pitt & Cuse because the other alternative is playing basketball with Tulane and UCF.

+1

If the ACC implodes and takes on USF, Cincy, UConn, Temple (or whoever among these type of schools) to replace UNC, Clemson (or whoever leaves) then it becomes a much weaker conference and maybe ND does not like that version of the ACC and considers jumping to the C7+

ND was not interested in aligning itself with BE football.  I get that.  So if the ACC includes most of the BE football schools plus second rate ACC football schools like BC, Wake, Duke, NC State, why is this any better?

Beyond the ND angle, an imploding ACC has no effect on us.

So he was upset about it 8 years ago, excited about it last year when it made his conference better, and now he's whining about it again.  Why should anyone care about his fair-weather opinion on the subject?  Shut up and go tape some American Express ads.

I assume all that that means is that whether the exit fee is enforceable must be determined by trial.

Interesting that the fourth best football conference gets to call all the shots.

OSU will be a title contender very soon. Michigan is still rebounding. The SEC doesnt have more than 2 title contenders in given year (at best). Maybe the SEC is better top to bottom but who cares about the middle of the pack teams?

I think some here overplay the weaknesss of the Big Ten in basketball and football but let's be realistic here.  All the Big Ten has is middle of the pack teams.

Since 1990, they have had a total of FOUR teams playing for the National Championship. That's 8% of the total.  If you figure six conferences (admittedly excluding Notre Dame) they should be 17% JUST TO BE AVERAGE.

One cannot reasonably compare the Big Ten and SEC in football. Your best teams in the B10 would rarely if ever make it to the SEC title game.

Are you high...or just a silly Big 10 backer? Alabama...Florida...LSU...Georgia...and now, Texas A&M. I'm not even including a solid team like Arkansas. The Big 10 wishes it had that kind of depth.

QuoteDuke coach Mike Krzyzewski said Saturday night grabbing Syracuse and Pittsburgh away from the Big East would be a major coup.

"It's actually pretty exciting," Krzyzewski said. "I think it's great for our conference football-wise, even better basketball-wise. Wherever this is going to end up, four big-time conferences or five, whatever it is, you want to be perceived as No. 1 in football and basketball.

"The last few years the ACC has lost some of that but over the last 25 years if you had to pick the best conference in basketball it is the ACC. Lately, it hasn't been that. It's been a really good conference. But to me this is in some ways a coup for basketball."

And Auburn and South Carolina.
Heck, although Tennessee has been in a down late, they were a consistent contender for most of Phil Fulmer era.
