Title: Sad day soon to come for NBA fans..
Post by: JD on February 15, 2013, 05:20:34 PM
Isn't sounding like Dr. Buss is going to make it.  I am really pulling for him, it's sad when anybody loses to cancer...  C'mon Jerry, keep pushing!

In addition, i thought this was a great, and true comment..

"Everyone assumes the Yankees are the most dominant franchise in sports, just ask any Yankees fan, but when you consider Buss' success (in a salary capped sport), his accomplishments blow away Steinbrenner's.  Buss never got the hype because he didn't act like an overbearing clown, like George did."

If you guys/gal don't know much about Jerry Buss, ask Ronny Turiaf.  The Dr. paid for Ronny Turiaf's heart surgery when he drafted him in 2005.  Amazing guy, who i thought never got the credit he deserved.

Technically baseball is now a salary cap sport just like the NBA.  You can go over it, but a luxury tax must be paid.  In one sense it was a lot harder for the Yankees because for many years only 2 teams from the American League even made the playoffs, while the NBA has has 8 teams from each conference for a long time.

Jerry had a remarkable run here with real estate, gambling, women, the Lakers.  Definitely an L.A. kind of guy.  I loved growing up in L.A. with the 80's Lakers.  When I came to MU the Bucks were really good and the Lakers were just better.  Used to have some epic trash talking sessions with friends about the Pistons, Celtics, Bucks and Lakers....with their success during Showtime I often came out on top.  It was fun.  I can't stand the NBA now, especially Kobe and a few others on the team, but I do miss what Dr. Buss started and the excited it brought to the city.  He'll join Chick Hearn and watch his Lakers from a better place.
