What a D move. He may be right, but you don't say that in the press in my opinion. Especially with how poorly he coached the last two games, he has his own issues to figure out. Here was his quote on Evans.
"He (Ryan Evans) just makes his free throws, we're out of here. We're on the plane already," coach Bo Ryan said of Evans, whose season percentage fell to 40.3. "Come on. What am I going to do with the guy? You knew it was going to us one game. Hopefully not two."
I'm sure he's doing it as a last ditch effort to try and get Evans out of the slump, but he does need to look in the mirror, and at the goofy red head who was called for traveling when he ran the baseline up 2 with about 22 seconds left, iirc. That's coaching/assistant coaching as well.
Perhaps if Bo had his players foul instead of letting UM run 15 seconds off the clock in the final minute they might have been on a plane with a win, also.
They did that in a game early this year I think, or maybe it was in the tourney last year cant remember

What are you going to do with the guy? Put him on the bench. If a player is costing you games, why is he getting 30 minutes a night?
That's horrible. Call him out in the locker room, not with the press.
Make him shoot granny shots.....

Yeah, Bo can't really complain about the kid if he's the one leaving him on the court. Especially when the kid with more talent than the rest of the team combined is still only playing 22 minutes:
BENCH M FG FT TR A PF PTS
S. Dekker, F 22 3-7 6-7 4 0 2 14
"They didn't score for 8:48, a run that lasted well into overtime, and Ryan Evans missed all five free throws he took in that stretch."
Gee coach, you think maybe he shouldn't be in there at the end of games when free throw shooting is at a premium? Think there is a reason Buzz plays DG instead of CO in these situations?
Maybe Evans was watchin' that DeAndre Jordan free throw clinic on You Tube and got messed up?
When Evans shoots free throws, it looks like that when he straightens his legs as he shoots, his butt goes backwards. They were talking about his struggles and showing the graphic comparing previous years so I was looking for a technical flaw and it looked to me like his backside goes away from the basket as he shoots. Or maybe it is all in his head.

It's all in his head. Any flaws in form have been identified by the coaching staff. A player's FT percentage doesn't plummet by 30 percent from one year to the next because of a slight change in form. It's not like a golf swing, it's shooting a ball--uncontested/not rushed-- into a cylinder that is 15 feet away.

Oh, I guess we know what you're looking for during games.
Evans' shot is broke. Anything outside of a few feet is the ugliest shot ever. However, his free throw shooting this year is also mental.. get him a shrink or a voodoo doctor.
Bo was subbing offense/defense with Dekker/Evans, but oh well.
Meh...
Why in the hell are we talking Ryan Evans. He goes to Wisco.
Wish we would have camped on Sam Dekker's doorstep.
Forgot he is not an inter city player. Our (MU) mistake.

why would you camp on someone's doorstep knowing you have no chance in landing him?
What the unnatural carnal knowledge does this have to do with Marquette basketball?
Isn't Evans related to one of the up and coming Milwaukee recruits? Maybe this episode will help MU in that recruitment.
To answer my own question, yes, Ryan Evans is Diamond Stone's cousin.
Uh, doesn't Buzz say the team is bad after every win almost?

Showing my age here but what does "Meh" mean. I see it often and yet have no idea.
Ah, I don't care.

I don't give a sh1t
The guy is a high major division I basketball player and shoots 40% from the line. I have no problem with it, that's atrocious. If you accept a scholarship to top flight Big Ten school then don't whine when your coach gets on you or fans rip you. That's part of the deal. 40%???
So a player who has struggled with his free throws all year misses them and it costs his team the game and the coach blames the kid instead of stepping up and saying "You know that's my fault for having him in there at the end. We all know he has struggled at the line and it's clearly mental at this point. I need to make better decisions as a coach in that situation"?
Well done Bo.....
Reminds me of Gary Barnett in his last year at Northwestern. Wasn't able to recruit a great QB for a few years so he ends up having to go with this redshirt freshman who was clearly in over his head. Northwestern plays Ohio State and loses. OSU was No. 1 in the nation and their QB was a fifth-year senior. The NW kid has a bad game. So afterward, Barnett bravely says the difference in the game was that Ohio State's QB played great and his QB pissed the bed.
Yes, it clearly was the kid QB's fault that the coach didn't recruit better QBs so was stuck playing the kid QB.
And it's Evans' fault that Bo plays him in crunch time even though Bo knows perfectly well that Evans can't make a FT to save his life -- and then Bo bravely rips Evans publicly later. Nice.

True, but he usually surrounds his criticism with a couple of compliments. It's called the sandwich technique.
This guy is shooting 40% from the line this year. That is pathetic. The weirdest part of his free throw shooting woes, is the fact that his last two seasons he shot 72% and 74%. How in the world can your free throw shooting drop by over 30%?? incredible..... I don't blame Bo Ryan for being pissed off, but that is something you deal with away from the press. No reason to call him out to the media.
Not for nothing, but in these clips Ryan Evans is the only player on the Badgers to draw a double team. That's probably worth something.
