Anybody else think it was weird that after Jamil converts the 3-point play to pull us within 8 with 35 seconds left, we don't double-team, we don't get super aggressive going for a steal and we don't foul?
Don't you at least send a GT player to the line once to see if he misses 2? I mean, even Steve Nash, the greatest FT shooter in the history of basketball, missed 2 straight the other night. Then, if you get 2 misses and hit a 3, all of a sudden you're down 5 with, say, 20 seconds left, the fans are squirming in their seats, the GT players get tight, and who knows ... maybe you at least make them sweat?
I don't like when coaches order their guys to foul down 12 with 11 seconds left. It's silly. But conceding when down 8 with 35 seconds left? I didn't like that at all.
BTW, I do leave open the possibility that Buzz wanted a foul and the players simply didn't execute. At least I hope that's what it was.
They had been trying for the last 10 minutes to cut into the lead, it didn't work.
Definitely found this odd myself. Chance of winning at that point was very very slim, but hell, i've seen crazier things happen.
I posted in another thread .. I agree, MU82 .. I was surprised and irked that Buzz threw in the towel with 34 seconds left. Yeah, it likely was going to be a loss, but hey, it's 34 seconds. Give it a try.
Hell, I'm surprised one of the players didn't realize the shot clock was off and just do what was natural: FOUL!
I watched the game with a former MU player and he was going nuts in the last minute. He could not believe that we threw in the towel.
Being at the game last night I don't find much fault with this. We shot ourselves in the foot countless times by cutting the lead to 8, getting a stop, and then immediately turning the ball over or bricking a quick three. As has been the case for most of the season we just can't hit th 3 consistently enough to get back into a game that late. The bigger problem for me was Buzz's technical which took a 3 point game to a 7 point game and we were never back in it from there.
Did you have money on the game? I saw the conceding angle from some that seemed to be bettors. Showed up in Google Alerts this morning from a few.

Buzz was emotionally beaten and ready to go home. So was the team.

The second half line was also in question. Being down 10 at half Marquette was given a .5 point for the second half.
Russ Smith wasn't on the other team, wouldn't have worked.

Oh. Well, ok then.
I mean, we wouldn't want the team to try and persevere through
that for another 10-20 seconds.
I didn't have money on the game and honestly didn't even think about the line when I started this post.
I just think a team should compete to the end. ND scored 12 points in less than a minute to tie Louisville.
If you foul with 32 seconds left, they hit both FTs to go up by 10 and then you miss on the other end, OK, it's time to concede. But if they miss their FTs and you hit a 3, it's a game.
You have to at least try, don't you?
I questioned this too in the chat last night. Just seemed uncharacteristic for Buzz not to push it to the end. I know that some coaches take that philosophy to an extreme, but seemed like enough time for at least one attempt.

Especially after the ND game the other night when one player scored 12 points in 47 seconds.
LW pulled the reigns and told Buzz to pack it in. No need to irritate A C7 school.
