Are you Larry Williams?
I was surprised by the low turnout for a Saturday. Lots of empties up top. Good game, though.
Agreed.
Especially the lack of students. It the upper half filled in a bit after the game was going, but man .. MU is ranked, it's a Saturday afternoon, not mid-terms, not finals. Plenty of time to study in the morning, afternoon, or night. What else are the kids doing?

Second highest attendance of the year at 16,178. Only the Wisconsin game at 18,588 was higher.

Then there were a ton of no shows. Upper deck was maybe 1/3 full.
The students were fine. It's DePaul for gods sake. How much excitement is there for them?
MU hasn't had an awesome league game yet other than g town. The big games are coming up. And, to beat a dead horse, MU does not have an exciting team this year. They have overachieved so far so drawing a measly 16500 to DePaul is fine by me.

The upper deck seats around 11,000. Every section had people in it.
Let's get a sell out for this Saturday, versus Pitt on CBS!!!!!!!
You sound like Crean.
No love for those of us who drove from Chicago!?! ;)
Hard to believe people don't want to pay to sit in the last 5 rows in the upper deck of the Bradley Center. What a travesty.

You mean its a National TV game? That means we're going to lose.
We enjoy a Top-10 average attendance in the whole nation the only reason that it seems empty is because we play in an Arena that seats 19,000. Give it a break. Good energy for a Depaul. Expect a full house for Pitt/Syracuse and please stop whining.
Warriorchick and I couldn't be there but we made sure our tickets were well represented. Watched on TV from the official Marquette bar in Vegas. Line was 15. Glad I saved my money for beer.

Changed our minds at the last minute. The Elvis minister was all booked up this weekend.

The current students are spoiled by having a perennial top 25 team...which is a good thing. No matter how good MU is, the students aren't going to come out to see them play a bad team. That's just the way it is.
wife and I got home from Florida (and USF game) late Friday night so we could make the game Saturday.

I remember coming down into the lobby of McCormick on Tuesday mornings when the AP & UPI rankings would be posted on the wall by the guard station (A duty RA would sit there at night to make sure females were signed in so they couldn't spend the night!) Back then Marquette was always in the top 2-3 and there was genuine outrage if we were "only ranked #2!" We were spoiled when Al was at the helm and took it for granted. The days of milk and honey.
Agreed on Al spoiling us. I remember in Hank's 2nd or 3rd year we were ranked out of top ten and I could not believe it. For years Johnny Owens introduced the Warriors and they were always ranked in top five. That is being spoiled. Love Buzz but quite a ways to go before I would say any MU fan is spoiled.

This right here. Heck, while I bemoan some students staying away, we're still getting like 30-40% of our student body on a bad day. That's really, really good. Let's also not forget this, we are out drawing the local NBA team. Joke about the Bucks all you want but that's impressive too.
Yup. Attendance is nearly 5k higher than when I was there. It only looks bad because there is room for another 3 k. How many schools have an average attendance nearly twice as large as their enrollment?
Keefe and Goose -
It's no coincidence that the MU fans who experienced the McGuire era are those most concerned that Buzz stays. We just lost 2 players to the NBA and have barely skipped a beat - that's the mark of an elite program the likes of which we haven't seen here since the late 70s. The company line here, that MU will be fine with or without Buzz, doesn't get the impact that a guy like Al or Buzz has on a program.
I agree Lenny. Many older fans have experienced both great highs and lows with the program over the years and realize how difficult remaining elite is. I have zero doubt that Buzz is going to be a major player in the college basketball world in the upcoming years and hope it is at MU. He might not be perfect but he is closest thing we have had to Al since Al IMO.
