1 IU, 2 Fla, 3 Mich and 5 Kansas (twice) all lost this week, 4 Duke still plays Sunday @BC
6 of the top 11 lost this week. 13 of the top 25, and again we have more games Sunday.
Welcome to NCAA basketball 2013. Who wants to be #1 next week? This year the top ranking is more the sacarficial lamb than a mark of a great program as the #1 team has lost (I believe) seven times this year (and counting).
Without any great teams this year, the ranking have become self fulfilling. If you started high, you're pretty much staying there. Duke only dropped, what, 4 spots after being manhandled by Miami?
Gonzaga and Miami should be 1-2.

You mean the preseason poll is the most absurd and ridiculous poll out there and wrong to the point of high comedy? Who would have thunk it. ;D
Actually the ranking with the most predictive value for success in the NCAA tournament is the preseason AP poll. It' has much better record than than the last poll before the tournament.

I believe that is only for Preseason #1, not the entire poll. My beef with the AP and Coaches polls, especially preseason and for a good chunk of the year is that they miss so badly on teams even MAKING the postseason, forget about anything else. These so called experts just look at the previous year, often look at the name on the front of the jersey, see who is coming back and bingo, there's the ranking. If it was only that easy. It's the same reason why experts who claim the Lakers will win the title this year were so badly mistaken. Or USC as number 1 in football...oops. Etc, etc. Personally, I think the polls are basically nonsense until later in the season. Ken Pom might be right about #1 preseason by and large doing well in the post season, but the misses up and down the top 25 are embarrassing every year by these guys.

And to think that it is critically important for football.

Gonzaga lost to that terrible Illinois team...at Gonzaga. Miami lost to Florida Gulf Coast.
I mention this only to show any team can have a hiccup...especially if they don't make adjustments.

Illinois was ranked #13 at that time. I wouldn't call it a bad win by any stretch.
as I believe they were when Northwestern beat them.
Add Arizona to the list of teams to fall, lost by 8 to Cal at home.

Wow. Did the Arizona students rush the court in anger?
