Title: Stoppage at the end of the game
Post by: g0lden3agle on February 09, 2013, 06:08:33 PM
Anyone know what the stoppage at the end of the game was for?  Announcers said there was an unruly fan... did he do something to actually prevent the game from continuing?

I think the AD unleashed Crowd Control to capture Chanters.

According to the other board, a fan was verbally inappropriate to a ref, and the fan was then removed.

If that is indeed the case, it's probably a good thing I never had really good seats when I was attending MU games.   ;)

He must have told the ref he sucked. We used to chant "Bull Sh1t" at bad calls. No one was ejected and no one received a dunning letter from the AD, Mr Alfred McGuire.

On two seperate occasions,(I think both were in the first half) depaul players signalled and jestured to someone in that same corner of the court after scoring baskets. It was the same corner of the court that later Driscoll was pointing to at the end of the game. I hope it was a depaul fan, but we'll see.

My guess is that it was a Depaul fan and that is why the ref went to the Depaul AD.

They have fans as in more than one?

In all honesty, I applaud our student section. Even on their worst day, they are 10000 times better than DePaul or USF.

During last weeks game, the USF announcer asked the crowd to vote them as the best student section in the country.  My spouse looked over at me and commented that we should vote as the six of them there with 10 minutes til tip off were enthusiastic. ;)

The refs walked over and talked to someone at the scorer's table. He got up, walked around the court and stopped behind two guys sitting court side. He talked to them for a minute before walking back. I watched their seats for a bit, but they never left, so I don't think they were ejected, but I'm sure they screamed at the ref, and he wanted them to settle down.

The point spread was mentioned.   Was relatively innocuous but Driscoll took offense.

That's pretty common at college basketball games. A lot of places have a way of assigning seats well before the game (first come first serve hours before the game and they give you a specific spot, just assigning seats with your season tickets, etc.). So since it's not first come first serve at the actual game it really doesn't matter. The Kohl Hole does that. Students didn't even start coming in until 3 minutes before the game. Not even their band was in there.

Driscoll talked to Jim Nasiopulos (MU Associate Athletic Director - Facilities) at the scorers table who then talked to the fan in the front row.

The guy didn't get ejected.
