Title: Record Week For Court Rushes?
Post by: Tugg Speedman on February 09, 2013, 05:16:58 PM
Going off memory, I've seen five court rushes this week.

* TCU beating #5 Kansas
* Ill beating #1 IU
* Ind St beating #16 Creighton
* Wisc beating #3 Mich
* Okla beating #5 Kansas

Is this a record week?  How about for Kansas getting rushed twice in 5 days?

P.S. Does ND rush if they beat 'ville tonight?  How about BC if they beat Duke tomorrow?

If we beat Gtown, we should rush... It may take a day or so to get there... but the rush will get there eventually.

We had our chance last month when we beat them in Milwaukee.

Only time we should rush this year is if we beat ND for the conference championship

Have the students been able to rush the court at the BC?

I recall a few times.  Mainly when we beat Cincy to win CUSA, I believe.

I wouldn't begrudge a rush if we beat then-number-one Syracuse. Of course, that's assuming all the other teams in the top 10 lose between now and February 25th (seems likely given recent history) and Syracuse remains unbeaten (seems unlikely given recent history).

Even if we beat Notre Dame, I don't think that would lock up the conference title. That would mean we move to 14-2 and everyone else would have to have 5 in the loss column by then. I believe 14-2 a lot easier than I do everyone else having 5 in the loss column, and us running off the next 6 will be tough.

Make that 6 court rushes this week and counting.  ND rushed the court after beating 'ville in 5OTs 104-101.

This is the second time this year ND rushed the court.  The other was when they beat Kentucky which is now a bubble team.  How many BE teams have rushed the court for beating a team that might not make the tourney?

This court rushing thing is getting out of control, it will become meaningless if this keeps up.  How long until Alumni using walkers rush the court?

Unless it is for the conference championship, I would hope MU would never do it. It is basically admitting that you are the inferior program.

+1

Unless it is a game that is talked about 20 years from today, that directors want to make movies about, rushing the court if what second rate programs do.  Rush the court twice in a season is what third rate programs do.  Rushing the court against a team that might not make the tourney is what "buy game" programs do.

Rushing the court is what people who want to have fun do. Did I miss the part of selection criteria where you get bumped down a seed line if you rushed the court that year? Bunch of killjoys, man. Sports are supposed to be fun. I wish I had an opportunity to rush the court in my years. I guess MU has been too good recently for that.

The Wisconsin rush may be the worst one I have ever seen.  Didn't they have the same conference record going into the game?

What do you do when you rush the court? Jump around and such, I guess.

After we won the Ship thousands poured out onto Wisconsin Ave and began moving eastward and didn't stop til we hit the lake. There was a lot of alcohol involved. Once we got to Lake Michigan there was this anti-climactic moment of, "now what?" It was decided to do a Death March back to the Lanche, hitting whatever bars we came across en route.

While just as spontaneous as a Court Rush the Street March allows participants to drink heavily and lustily call out vulgar chants, all the while proclaiming the inherent superiority of your team and school. The key enabling factor is to carry as much alcohol as you can and keep drinking in order not to lose momentum.

Not only did ND rush the court when beating a bubble team but they were favored in that game. That may be a new low.

Excellent point. In the wake of the Manti fake GF deal maybe they have a hard time accepting realities

In recent year, how many times has Kentucky, Duke, UNC, Kansas etc rushed the court?  I don't know but I'll guess zero.

MU has not rushed the court in recent years as well ... I like our company.

Did they have the fence / gate up then?

There was no gate.

The last and hopefully last ever Marquette rush was against Louisville. March 6th, 2004. Freshman Dameon Mason nailed a jumper to tie the game and was fouled. Sank the free throw, and Louisville threw the in bounds pass away.

In '96 the fans rushed the court to celebrate beating South Florida to reach the NIT Final 4.  We have no room to criticize any other school.

Unranked team beats the team that would be ranked #1 in the country on Monday. Not bad at all. Especially considering the magnitude of Brust's shot in regulation.

In 1996 Bill Clinton was getting air starts in the Oval Office, Java v1.0 was released, the Ravens were still the Browns, Intel releases 200MHz Pentium chip, Bill Clinton business partners McDougals are convicted of fraud, Reds owner Marge Schott says Hitler wasn't all bad, Nintendo 64 launched in Japan, Eddie Murphy still thought to be straight, Mike Tyson is heavyweight champ, Mike Piazza is All Star MVP and thought top be gay, Hot Mail (sic) launched, Charles and Diana divorced, Netscape v3.0 launched, Roberto Alomar spits in umps face, Taliban seize power in Kabul, Dow breaks 6,000 for first time, baseball owners approve interleague play, and Mike Deane was the Marquette coach.

1996 was a long time. The kids who rushed the court that year are approaching 40. Hopefully they have settled down, grown, gained perspective and would horrified that a Marquette crowd would cheapen the university and insult the Warriors by rushing the court.

Yeah, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, NC state, and Illinois have now cheapened themselves and are not good basketball schools. These teams have won national championships and gone to final fours, and they likely will again. It is fun. College kids have fun, and if you have a chance to have that fun in the 4 year window you attend school, you better take that chance, no matter what a bunch of old farts up their ass enough to judge court rushing merit seem to think.

I support the kids should have fun argument, but the act needs to retain its charm. A lot of that charm was lost in recent weeks.

Also, the more rushes will only lead to the ultimate end game of a complete ban.

My guess is that ND student did it because in their sub conscious, they cant deal with the a$$ whopping embarrassment they took on the national stage thanks to their football team.

 Lots of inferiority going on there after they were made out to be the world's biggest chumps.

All of the NCAA will look at what's been happening the last few weeks and take measures across the country to stop it.

What about the Kentucky BBall game?  That was before the Alabama FB game.

Question, answer honestly ... if we beat Louisville in 5 OTs which included many dramatic moments, would we rush the court?
