With the semester starting in about one week, just want to know if TM is on the MU campus? Any sightings? If so, I'd feel a lot more confident that it is merely a NCAA Clearinghouse issue/formality.
No, waiting on the NCAA to clear him. All reports are that he his academically eligible, just needs to be made "official" by the NCAA.
Not sure I am buying into that. One can enroll at Mu without being eligible in the eyes of the NCAA. At this point I would say Mbakwe is a goner.

I don't think every enrolled student is eligible to play. I mean, just because MU accepts me as a student doesn't mean the NCAA automatically clears me to play a sport.
I don't have any special insights, but given what has been reported I'm guessing he was able to finish up some class work over the summer (or re-take a test), and now he has been accepted to MU and enrolled.
The NCAA is still probably reviewing his coursework/test scores from this summer and determining if he is truly eligible to play.
Hopefully the clearing house moves quicker than last year.
Neither Saunders nor Mbakwe is listed in the student directory. Both Hazel and Christopherson are.

if Mbakwe is not cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse by the time school starts -- like Lazar last year -- MU might look to avoid the risk and ask the kid to pay his own way (which was a key part of MU's speak on this last fall)........which apparently Lazar did last year as the process worked out. Since Mbakwe is not on campus yet, you have to figure that Mbakwe wont be doing the same thing. So, unless the NCAA comes through before classes start - - its hard to see him as anything but a goner.
Tick tock, tick tock. There's still time.
I guess the question is, if Trevor is not on campus where is he?

Ah ha... that makes the most sense out of everything that I've heard. AND given that there is not such thing as a partial qualifier anymore, MU really can't just take him and see what happens.
This is a tough deal for the kid and MU... I really hope it works out.
Guess this is happening to a lot of new student athletes around the country.
So, I guess the odds of TM ever showing up in an MU uniform diminishes by the day. Not good. I saw the young man play at the Al last winter and thought he could contribute as a frosh. This looks like its turning out to be a punch in the gut. Hope I'm wrong.

Of course, we don't expect anything but negativity out of you. Below is from a very reliable source:
Trevor took a class in a Minneapolis that offered summer classes for the first time this year. Trevor needed a certain grade in a class he took this summer to in order to pass the NCAA guidelines for admission. He got the grade he needed.
However, he took the class at a Minneapolis school that offered summer school classes for the first time in 2007. The NCAA is currently investigating/checking out that school to make sure everything is on the up and up, which it is. Once the NCAA is satisfied with the credentials of the school, Trevor will be cleared and thus gain entrance to Marquette.
Obviously time is of the essence, but we are waiting on the NCAA, and that is the reality of it all, sorry Harrison.

If he only needed this one class, why not take it somewhere with credentials dating back further than 3 months? That's a red flag, if you ask me.

How dare you be negative about Harrison's negativity!
Trevor would be such a tremendous help to the team and I believe he wants to be at Marquette. Hope this gets straightened real quick if for nothing else, his Marquette education which is invaluable.
Acuse me of being negative all you want....No one would like Trvor to be at MU more than me.
But if the kid is not in the directory, and not in school? Than call me negative but maybe he aint gonna be there? Is that too negative to suggest?
And I agree with the other comments ...knowing the NCAA...you take a class at aplace that just opened.?
Also...it took the NCAA almost a month to clear Lazar, yet he went to a school that had been open for more than a summer. Luckily for him he was also already enrolled. At what point if this drags on like the NCAA has been known to do is it too late to enroll and start classes? Can someone start classes on october 1st? 9/15?
I dont want to ruin some bodies positivity, but i agree with the other "negative" posters that every day TM is not on campus the chances of him being here becomes exponentially less.

The school has been around for more than three months, this summer was the first time they offered summer classes, big difference there......

I dunno... I mean if the school offers the course... what's wrong with taking it? Doesn't sound too criminal to me.
Given MU's history and Crean's reputation, I doubt that Trevor was put into some "special class" that was just made up so he could take it and pass. That seems like a play out of the Jim Harrick playbook, not Coach Crean or Fr. Wild.
I'm guessing the NCAA is just double checking because in the past, I would guess "special schools" and "special classes" were given over the summer for some players to become eligible.

Yes. And the NCAA is familiar with it as well. They were cleared to play.
I know you are trying a "where there is smoke there is fire" approach... but I'm just not seeing it. I'm not saying it's not possible... but seems very unlikely given the state of MU and the program.

here's an in-depth article about Notre Dame prep
http://www.telegram.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060212/NEWS/602120619/1009
The question for me is pretty simple. Are kids from Notre Dame Prep making the grade in college? Are they staying eligible? Are they graduating? The NCAA has already cleared this school, but unfortunately some other "prep" schools became diploma mills and as thus has tainted many of the other Prep schools.
If ND Prep kids were failing out left and right or not graduating, I think that raises a distinct red flag. If that is not happening, where is the problem?
MU doesn't have a whole lot of "sluff" majors like huge state schools. Yes there are a disproportionate amount of athletes in Communications but I'd put that up against Ag. Journalism, tourism, General Studies, and many others any day of the week.
Ok...off the wall question for debate...
I know the consensus has pretty much been that Saunders won't be at MU - but if for some reason the NCAA doesn't clear Mbakwe - could the door still be open for Saunders? MU has made no statement on either one, so it seems like a possibility.
Saunders will never wear a Warrior's uniform.

Nah. We could've had Bryce Webster, Daniel Deane, James Tchana, or Maurice Thomas.
yes we could have but we could of also had Williamson who was a real stud at Cincy last year and the kid that ended up at georgia last year who was a huge stud ....instead of Blackledge. Who seems like a good kid but is not a D1 talent

You mean the Williamson kid who grew up loving the Bearcats and always wanted to play for them as well as the Brown kid who was academically ineligible for a time at Georgia? If you think we are having problems getting Mbakwe and Saunders in, Brown would have given you a heart attack.
so what you are saying is Brown was not a whole lot different than Trend?, except for the fact that brown actually started 31 of 33 games. Or that he scored 14 a game with 6 boards.
Additionally, he shot 57% from the field and 69% from the line. To say the Brown situation is worse than Trend, Saunders, or Mbakwe is a joke.
I would agree it is different becuase unlike Trend he never missed a semester and was arguably the best player on the team. And unlike Saunders and Mbakwe he actualy enrolled.
Different yes...worse....I am not seeing that. Mu is a top 5 team last year and this year with Takais Brown!

Didn't mention anything about playing time. Re: Mbakwe/Saunders I was talking about academic issues. Considering the meltdown some people have had over the last 3 months following the Brown situation would have been akin to news coverage of the Chandra Levy missing persons case.
I realize you said nothing about playing time or the big time stats. i just thru that in there after you said getting Brown in would have been worse.
Becuase how could it have been worse than Blackledge, when brown actually got into school and then played both semesters. it seems to me the Blackledge situation purely academically was worse. Well's leave the stats aside.
Additionally, how is the Brown situation worse than this year's when again brown got into school and played both semsters when Mu's two kids are no where to be seen.
Not following? remeber this started when someone listed all the players MU could have gotten instead and I simply listed two JUco studs!! When insted we got a guy who should have never gotten a scholarship and instead will be atwo year issue.

Brown couldn't get into MU. Is that clear enough?
Continue on your rant against Blackledge.
Pretty sure Coobeys is saying that MU is better academically than Georgia...thus, it would be the same situation since he wouldn't be able to make the grade here where he was able to at Georgia. Thus, having him sit out would be a bigger knock against the team than having Trend not playing...if I am following that correctly.
"We understand the Clearinghouse is loaded up with athletes still playing fall sports," Crean said. "He's (Trevor M) been waiting patiently to get the final answer. From what we've seen there's no reason to think everything's not going to work out fine."

So know what's the negative slant on this now Turners and PRN?
This information is no different that what my people have been telling me and what basiclly by now everyone one know's.
The problem/ the issue is if as crean states, the NCAA is working on fall sports unlike last october/Novemeber when they took a month to clear Lazar and it then takes the NCCA the same month or longer does trevor walk into classes in October as a new student?
Is that allowable by NCAA or Mu standards? can he possibly remain elegible under those circumastances?
If Crean's not worried about it, then I wouldn't be either.
You have to figure he'd be looking at every angle available and fighting like hell to help out the situation if he thought Mbwake wasn't going to be here.

They've been busy clearing some Wisconsin football players of late (Clay, et al) so now they can move on to some others.
This is one huge disadvantage of being on a semester system vs at quarter system like UCLA. UCLA starts school the last week of September.
