Film room: Cadougan shines, offense efficient, finally a blowout

Given opponent (Big East partner) and venue (on the road in Tampa Bay), Marquette had its most dominating performance of the 2012-'13 season in a 70-47 victory over South Florida on Wednesday night. I went back and watched the film ... Continue reading → (http://painttouches.com/2013/02/07/film-room-cadougan-shines-offense-efficient-finally-a-blowout/)

Strotty,

I found your paint touch analysis outstanding.  When we get the ball inside either through a solid pass or some good dribble penetration, good things almost always happen.  When we exclusively pass around the perimeter, it often ends as a poor possession.  Worst of all, when we heave an ill-advised 3 early in the shot clock, a miss invariably turns into a break out for the opponent.  One area that still needs a bit of improvement is Gardner's ability to get the ball back out when he catches at a spot where he's uncomfortable quickly going to the hoop.  Happened twice against USF as I recall with one turnover and one offensive foul.

Also, I wonder if Steve's defense was impacted by 'garbage time'?  Clearly he's a been a quick study on the offensive end where his game seems very comfortable and developed.  But no doubt he's still on the learning curve defensively.  But it'll surely come as he's such a good athlete and a coachable, bright kid.  Some may not know but this is only his 4th year of organized basketball.

Interesting - really like hearing that.  It only adds to his upside in my view.  I'm confident Buzz will get him to his ceiling, and when he gets there it will be VERY fun to watch.

Absolutely.  And Steve knows it.  A super kid, too.
