Interesting review of Earl's NBA life. Back in the day, man could this guy ball.

Gotta love the McGuire breakfast story. Classic Al! God I miss that man. He was one-of-a-kind.

Sit across the aisle from him at games. Usually there with one of his kids or grandkids. I believe a son-in-law is a coach somewhere. Nice guy always has a smile.

What did he have to say about the pep band's repertoire?

"The hotel I stayed at had this huge breakfast spread," recalls Tatum, of his official visit to Marquette in the spring of 1972. "I'd just finished eating when Coach McGuire came in to pick me up. He lifted the napkin off my plate and started eating with his hands the remaining scraps of food under it. I was leaning towards attending Indiana, but that one act convinced me to go to Marquette. He was so at ease with himself and unconcerned about how it might look. I knew there and then that I wanted to play for this man."

Tatum could light it up!  We sure could use a shooter like that on this squad.

I have had the opportunity to meet Earl on a couple of different occasions and he is one of the nicest people I have ever met. Someone that MU and MU fans should be proud of.

The article says he worked for Farmer's Insurance in Milwaukee for 23 years after his playing days. Also mentioned he volunteers with the Harbaugh committee to assist former players. Gotta love the volunteerism. Glad to hear he used basketball and not the other way.

That's what I thought.  I wasn't sure about where.

Al and all those great players were way before my time (wasn't even born until 1988) so I love hearing these types of stories about MU in the 60s and 70s.

What is this list?

And why does Whitehead get two mentions?  And why no Bo Ellis?

That was before Al took a swing at him.

Wrong man. Al got into fist fights with Delsman, Brell, and Toone. Tatum was always one of his favorites.

Al never took a swing at Earl.  He had Earl be one of his pall bearers.

That is correct. McGuire hand picked his pall bearers. In addition to Tatum he chose Majerus, Ed Janka, Jack Burke, Ulice Payne, George Thompson, and Ric Cobb to carry him to his last ride.
