Just caught some of Katz Corner on ESPNU earlier tonight. He interviewed the director of facilities for the University of Miami. The U actually has a checklist for rushing the court. Starting at the 4 minute TV time-out, they began preparing the court to get rushed (last week's 27 point pounding of Duke, the worst loss by a #1 since 1968!).
I had no idea their was a procedure for such an impromptu event. How does one prepare if you win on a last second shot and the kids rush the court (Daemon Mason?)
You learn something new everyday.
In the past, the BC has done everything possible to prevent people from rushing the court, including putting up barricades and bringing down extra security to block everyone.
Miami does the opposite. The create lanes to let the kids on the court and they direct them to prevent injuries.

What a joke. Maybe they can give every student a helmet too.

Seriously? I think this is a great idea. Rushing the court isn't safe.

The student section at the BC is set up so poorly to rush the court anyways
Only time I remember the court being rushed at the BC was when the team won the 2003 Conference USA championship. Security had the barricades and everything up and pulled them at the last second.
We also rushed the court at the Humpty Dump after beating Kentucky in the elite 8.
Neither time seemed unsafe, but then I probably wasn't in a condition to judge the safety of my actions anyway...

What about the potential concussions and long term effects on these students later in life?

And which student sections are using PEDs?
Or wearing condoms?
I was on the floor twice 98-02. First was early in 98-99 season after beating cinci. Second was 01-02 after beating Cinci. I believe that is the American flag at center court with the crowd pict, maybe Jon harris near it or holding it? Iirc. It was super easy to get on the floor. Don't believe security stopped anyone.
We rushed the court when we beat Notre Dame in 1990.
It was pretty lame. But this was right after the Dukiet years so we had to make due.

Was on the court that day as well....but no beer thrown on me. :D Somewhere I have the photo that appeared in the MU Tribune of the students on the court. It sure beat the game where we had ND down big at halftime with Shannon Smith on the team only to totally collapse in the second half.

I remember that game vividly. I had to work and missed the entire first half. I show up at halftime and got to see that 2nd half disaster. Sucked.

I remember that first one. Security actually tried to stop me from getting on the floor but as the mass of people behind began to build i think I would have been in some trouble if the security guy hadn't just moved. In fact, I think there was a girl in front of me who fell and nearly got stepped on during the dash to the court.
I remember meandering on the court after beating Louisville in 2004, i think. It wasn't your average frantic rush. It was more of a "we beat a pretty good team but our team is still middling at best" kind of rush. Thanks for the memories, Mason!

Yep, I rushed the court after that game too. 3 out of 4 losing seasons while I was there so not much to cheer about in those days.

Or the court rush when we won the CUSA title. I participated in that one as a HS student. People just started wandering out onto the court after the game was over, like less of a rush and more a random celebration.
Doesn't someone fine us if we rush the court now? I thought that was a big motivator behind putting up all the barricades and stopping any rush before it can happen.

I don't recall rushing the court after Kentucky in 2003.... however, the amount of alcohol consumed that night in Minneapolis may very well have wiped away that memory.
I remember the remaining students rushing Wells Street after beating Kentucky. And then drunkenly marching down Wisconsin Ave to the lakefront to party the night away.
Without a doubt, the one of the best/most-fun nights of my life to date.
The 2002 Cincy game was dangerous only for the fans sitting in the front of the student section. Back in the day when the MU bench was on the other end of the court, a lot of older players, big-time alums and CTC's family sat right in front of the section. I specifically remember Joanie yelling at all of the students as they ran through that section.

+1
Also, after beating Pitt the impromptu "block party" on 16th and Wells with keg stands with Public Safety officers cheering us on with "Streets Have no Name" blaring was quite a fun time to be a freshman.

Not sure how big of a crowd it was as the student section alotted wasnt that large near the floor, but I distinctly remember being kicked off the metrodome floor by security.
Then again, Perhaps it was the Pitt game?
During my 4 years, I would have liked a win big enough to rush the floor. Curse you, ND/UNC/Majerus/Dukiet

Hell yes.
I'm so grateful to have been able to experience that firsthand my freshman year.

Frankly, that whole weekend is a blur to me.... the only assurance I have of being at that game is that blue ticket I have in my "stub mug" (keepsake ticket stubs from over the years)

Hah, makes total sense. The best non-basketball moment of that weekend were the guys sitting near me in the student section that somehow smuggled in vodka and captain morgan in 2 liter pepsi bottles and passed them around. I still have no idea how they got those past the security guards...
Rushing the court is bush league!!!!
Call me back when we storm Wisconsin Avenue!
Or when 10,000 of us end up at Mitchell Field later in the evening.
For the record, we did both on a stormy night in late March 1977!
We beat #2 UConn in 06 in the first BEast game in MU history but we were not allowed to rush the court... barracades and security and stuff. this was right around the "don't tase me, bro" era so none of us were thinking of pressing the issue.
Then again some feel rushing the court should only be done when you upset #1.
Has MU rushed the court in the Buzz era?
If we beat Syracuse would that generate a court rush?
Or, are we now good enough that no win would get us to rush the court? Rushing the court is what second rate teams do when they beat someone of significance. We the someone of significance so we get rushed upon, so we don't rush when we win. (they don't rush the court at Duke when they win, but they do at Miami).

That game was amazing. I'll never forget Novak's performance. Though, in all honesty, the court-rush would have been underwhelming since the game was over holiday break.
I rushed the court at the Mecca. After beating South Florida. To go to the semi-finals of the NIT.
It was awesome, but thank God the program is better than that these days.

One of my favorite MU games ever. The old barn absolutely rocked that night. Would love to watch that game again, and see Hutch bury that 3 from the wing in OT.
