Title: 1/29 Bracketology
Post by: jsglow on January 29, 2013, 09:38:05 AM
Up to a #6 in Dayton.  Not sure we can be slotted with #3 Butler as our third round opponent but I understand Lunardi really doesn't worry about that at this stage.  Interesting to note that 'Nova has worked its way in this week so currently 8 projected from BEast (all without UConn.)

I believe we could technically play Butler in the 3rd round, but the committee would try to avoid that situation.

S16 matchup with Tommy would have this board going nuts...

Kentucky, North Carolina and UCLA in the field?  Someone here needs to have a chat with Joe Lunardi's about his errors.   :P

Couldn't think of a better way to get to our 3rd straight Sweet 16.

We'd already be in the S16 when we played them.  But it would be a great way to get buzz's first elite 8.

EDIT: He also has St. John's in the "First Four Out" putting them as the 4th team missing the cut. Still spitting distance if a nice run to end the year for SJU.

SLU is in the "Next Four Out" putting them as the 8th team missing the cut, for whatever that is worth.

I would love it.  We'd have a puncher's chance.  Cadougan can easily guard Hulls, and Hulls wouldn't be able to turn him over; we could put a bigger Blue/Mayo on Ferrell, and Davante could potentially get Zeller in foul trouble.  Plus it would be a neutral court, and they perform much worse away from home.  And it's a no-lose situation, since they were annointed #1 preseason.  Of course, they shoot the 3 ball really well and that's our biggest defensive weakness right now, so there are some things on our end they could exploit too.

My coworker is an Indiana fan (he lives in Chicago and I live in New York).  He independently told me that it seemed that Crean couldn't make in-game adjustments and couldn't properly utilize a big man.  If Indiana is all it takes to get to the Elite Eight, sign me up.

awesome breakdown, hope Lunard's bracket is perfectly right and nothing changes between now and mid-march

I'd love that bracket - especially since the Regional Final would be in Washington, DC. Lots of alum in the area and I think MU would have a really good fan showing there (IF we made it that far). It would be great to see them again after the Feb. 11 date against Georgetown.

Yes, of course.  My mistake.

Some of that S16 or E8 confusion has to do with the inane NCAA push to call the play-in games the 1st round. They're not the 1st round; they're the play-in games and always will be.

Potential new conference would also have 6 possible teams: Marquette, Butler, Villanova, Georgetown, Creighton and VCU.

This is why I'd like to see VCU picked for the league over Dayton.

Yep, long way to go until March, but VCU once again looks like a tournament team.

I truly hate whatever idiot decided to start officially calling the play-in games "the first round."

Agree.  Hey guys, 60 teams get a first round bye!  ::)

It's also kind of funny that getting assigned to Dayton might be cool or it might be a huge slap in the face depending if one's first game is Thursday/Friday or Tuesday/Wednesday.  ::)

It would be a fun game.  Not sure anyone cares who was preseason #1 when looking at the track record of the AP or coaches over the years with that designation, but whatever.  "Hey, they were ranked #1 six months ago before one single game was played...awesome".

Not sure who can stop Oladipo on our team.  If IU shoots the 3 poorly, they can get into trouble.  They also have a freshman point guard, which I think will be their undoing in the NCAAs.  I like my PGs to be juniors or seniors to advance far in the tournament.

St. John's is right on the bubble.

Yep. I think Lavin has St. John's moving in the right direction.

Lunardi even has St. Louis in his "next Four Out."

FIFY ;)

Indiana has a solid team, but they aren't near the same team away from home.

How many teams are?  Though they are 5-1 away from the AH this year....the lone loss in OT to a pretty good team.  Dangers lurk everywhere on the road...like in Green Bay.   ;D

I know it'll never happen but doing a H/H with Indiana would be incredible.  The chorus of boos in the Bradley would be priceless.  The best opponents are the schools you hate the most.  I guess that's why I'm hoping we can set something up with the Domers.

FWIW, I have a good friend who's in a PhD (or post-doc, can't remember) program down at U of I.  He's been there so long he's got seats pretty much on the floor.  Any time Illinois plays Indiana, he wears his MU gear and heckles Tom Crean for the entire game.
