I just saw that Team USA has it's opening game against Venezuela in the Tournament of the Americas. The games appear to be on TV, so we may get to see how Cubillan stacks up against the NBA players.
Anyone know if he is getting any PT?

"The two opening games against Venezuela and the Virgin Islands will be shown live on ESPN Classic and ESPN360.com and after midnight on tape delay on ESPN2. All the other first- and second-round games will be shown live on ESPN2 and ESPN360.com (click here for the TV schedule).
The Americans finish first-round play two weekends from now (Aug. 25-26) against Canada and Brazil before moving on to the second round for crossover play against the four surviving teams from the other pool, which includes Argentina, Uruguay, Panama, Mexico and Puerto Rico."

I think Rosiak said in his blog that Crean heard 2nd hand that Cubillan is starting for them. You now have a 5th hand account of his status. Should be fun watching that game. Hopefully my DirecTV service is back up and running by then. Otherwise I'll be squinting to watch it on 360.
Anyone else think it's weird how "2nd hand" all of Coach Crean's info about Cubillan has been? And Crean is the one who openly admits this. Normally he is so on the ball with this stuff.
Weird.

It was on Rosiak's blog that he can't get through to him via telephone or email and that he is getting the info from teammates who IM Cubillan. I would tend to believe Crean on this. If email was an option I'm sure he would have one of the assistant coaches or team managers check in on him if he didn't do it himself. Crean is too much of a micromanager to not stay in contact if staying in contact is possible.

Adding to that, is there any NCAA restriction on player contact during the summer? I know basketball contact is limited and when they talk about academics coaches tend to talk in vague terms such as, "I've heard he's doing well" or "From what we know, he's doing well".
There's nothing to read into it other then people being paranoid and wanting something to be wrong. By all accounts, both inside and outside the program, Cubillan will be a big player for MU this coming season.
Hrm... I would expect that if you can use IM then you can access e-mail.. Hotmail, gmail, excite, yahoo.. heck I would bet that the university itself has (or at least easily could have) a web-based e-mail portal.
My thoughts about this revolve more around whether there are NCAA restrictions on the contact a coach can have with a player.. maybe IM/e-mail fall outside those limits and so he relies on word-of-mouth from other players when he is able to communicate with them.
All I have to say is FIBA sucks.
They control the release of scores and highlights through their press releases. You NEVER see a box score just key players (usually 2-3 per team) and their point totals.
Here's my initial thread about Venezuela's venture through the Stankovic Cup. (http://www.muscoop.com/index.php?topic=3500.0) They finished 0-5 and were in Spain two days ago to play Spain's national team.
I was able to track down results of the Spain-Venezuela score (93-69, Spain), BUT NO CUBILLAN! (http://www.feb.es/files/pdf/selecciones/seniormas/2007/ESP-VEN_F.pdf)
This explains NO Cubillan: http://www.ultimasnoticias.com.ve/ElDeporte/default20070816.asp

In other words, they decided to revamp the national team. There was talk before FIBA about Oscar Torres (former Rockets player) joining the National team. It looks like Coobs was left off the team. That SUCKS!

Well, I guess the good news is that he'll be with the Marquette team for their Canadian trip :)
