I know the conference season is still early with a lot of games to go, but with us being the best team so far, Gtown and Nova struggling and 3 teams in the bottom 4 of the BE conference standings does this bode well for the new conference. That is why I think Creighton, Butler, Xavier and Gonzaga are must haves to give the new league high major status.
Unless there is some major behind the scenes stuff going on I don't see Gonzaga happening.
Teams have down years and sluggish starts to conference play every year. We are only 4 games into conference play and as other threads have stated we could easily be 0-4 which would add a win to Georgetown and SH.
Nova's 2 losses are to Cuse and Pitt
2 of Pitt's losses are against Cincy and us and even though Rutgers isn't great they always pull a few upsets every year.
This league will be fine especially with a few quality adds. Now if this was the end of the season and the C7 made up the bottom half then you might worry, but let it play out.

I would be a little concerned about the crowds with the new C7. The fans last night looked disinterested. Even the announcers commented on how quiet it was.

I wouldn't put too much into the crowd last night. It was a game against an opponent we should have crushed, plus haven't the students just gotten back? The weekday 8 starts never have the atmosphere of the weekend game unless it is a top team in the conference. Games like last night are one of the drawbacks to using a NBA arena.

GTown lost to Pitt and us but has won 2 in a row now. It will be a typical Big East year where everyone beats up on each other and can lose on any given night.
We may see more separation between the good and bad in new conference but that is more typical of what you see elsewhere.

Well, I think that is part of the point--the game last night was against one the teams leaving with us. While Gtown, Nova, and maybe SJU are games that might draw a little more excitement to the BC, games against SHU, DePaul, Providence aren't terribly exciting right now.
Now, I think several of the purported additions (X, Butler, Creighton) can fall into that first category, but arguably, Dayton or SLU (at least right now) might be closer to the second group in terms of drawing fans in and creating exciting matchups.
Maybe we can give SHU the boot and call it the C6 instead. They are terrible. They dont have much going for it. They have sucked for a long time. The university itself isnt doing well because their alums dont financially support the school, nevermind the athletic department. There is no reason to believe they will improve in the near-term. SHU is the only school I actually worry about as a member of the new conference.

I have a lot more faith in Willard's ability to elevate that program than Purnell at DePaul. They're rebuilding, but were on the bubble last year and considering what they lost I don't think are too bad this year.

I hear ya, but it has zero chance of happening. Leaving Seton Hall behind, I believe, triggers exit fees for the other schools even if they were to stay for the required 27 months. That's 60 million in negotiation leverage lost, and it also weakens the C7 claim to the Big East name.

Plus, I believe having at least 7 schools in the same league for 5 years grants us the almighty NCAA tournament automatic bid.
My comment was nothing more than wishful thinking, I dont actually believe that SHU will not be part of the new conference...just as I dont believe their bball program (along with SJU) will get better as a result of being in the new conference.
OK, time for a reality check:
1) Our planned new conference includes several "name" programs with big final four reputations. That includes us, Georgetown, Villanova, St. John's and DePaul. I don't think Providence has been a final four team and I'm guessing pretty strongly that Seton Hall hasn't been either! But we're all name programs!
2) All programs have down years from time to time. Just this week, ESPN was speculating on whether the University of North Carolina might not make the NCAA tournament. Imagine, UNC not in the tournament? Does that mean the ACC stinks? Hardly (though it does because we know we hate Duke and UNC). God knows, we had some bad years when a certain piano playing head coach came to town!
3) Gonzaga plays in the kennel, a 6,500 seat arena. That's not big-time!
4) Build it and they will come! Years ago, we played in the Arena at 7:30 p.m., and the place was packed. Al was famous for claiming he always looked to see if the seat in the back row was filled. It was. We're a good team and maybe we're a little complacent because we're used to a higher level of play than we expected this year. And, we're not ranked as high as we have been.
5) It probably wouldn't hurt if Buzz was a bit more positive. This "we're not as talented as last year" crap is not doing a lot for the gate and for the enthusiasm. Hey Buzz, why not say "I've never seen a team try as hard..." or "we find ways to win!" Or even, "I'm so proud of our guys because they find something within them that I'm not always sure was there. They just do!" We know you loved Jae and DJO! So did we. But they're gone and get over it. Vander, Todd and Davante are the real deals and this team may not shoot the lights out. It may not finess the other team. But for crying out loud, they're 12-3 and kicking butt and taking names. Play that up for crying out loud. Or go dance on the center court at one of our esteemed opponents! That will light us up and, pardon the pun, create a Buzz!

Providence College: won the 1961 and 1963 NIT championship and participated in the 1973 and 1987 Final Four, and the 1997 squad advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight.
Seton Hall: 1988, Carlesimo led the Pirates to the school's first NCAA tournament appearance, and in 1989, he led the Hall to an unexpected tournament run to the NCAA Championship game, where they were defeated by Michigan in overtime. Success under Carlesimo continued with a Big East Tournament Championship and an Elite Eight appearance in 1991, a regular season Big East Championship and Sweet Sixteen appearance in 1992, and Big East Regular Season and Big East Tournament Championships in 1993.
Even SH and PC have had some success in the not too distant past.

Great. We can add this to the list of games that can't be expected to draw good crowds:
1. Any early-December game, because of upcoming finals.
2. Any Late-February/early-March game because of mid-terms
3. Any November game, because people aren't thinking about basketball yet.
3. Any late-December/early-January game due to winter break
4. Any weeknight game ever.
5. Any Saturday game with a start time before 3PM
6. Any Sunday game--especially if there's a football game on the same day (or day before or day after).
and now . . .
7. Any game early in the semester against a team we're supposed to crush.
The solution is to play all 16 home games in four Saturday Quad-Headers--beginning the 3rd week in January, and ending the 2nd week in Feburary. (as an aside, maybe we could get Quad/Graphics to sponsor!).
Then, so there are no complaints against the opponents, for each quad-header we'll schedule MU vs. Notre Dame, MU vs. Wisconsin , MU vs. UNC, and MU vs. Kansas. . . and hope the Packers are done playing by then.
People complaining about last night's crowd just illustrates how spoiled we've become by MU's success.
Paid attendance last night was 13,842.
For argument's sake, let's assume 2,500 - a big number - were no shows. That means 11,342 people attended a mid-week game against a poor opponent. If that were MU's season average attendance, it would be good enough to rank 34th in the nation, just behind Mizzou, Michigan and Minnesota, and ahead of Georgetown, Florida, Pittsburgh and West Virginia, among many, many others (who obviously never have no shows).
FWIW, an average attendance of 13,842 would rank MU 21st in the nation.
In other words, a bad game attendance wise for Marquette is much better than the great majority of D-I programs, including many big state schools.
You may now resume your griping.

While this is true you ignore that a lot of d1 schools (including big publics) dont have a facility as large as the BC.
It's a testament to this board that we can complain about attendence/atmosphere when the team has a 19 game home winning streak going.
Stay intelligent MU Scoop.

But most have student bodies and alumni bases many times larger.
Anyhow, the arena capacities for schools I listed:
Mizzou .... 15,061
Minnesota .... 14,625
Michigan .... 12,721
Georgetown .... 18,000
Florida .... 11,584
Pittsburgh .... 12,508
West Virginia .... 14,000
Lack of seating isn't why these schools' attendance is hovering around 11,500 or less.

Depends on how many sell-outs they have per year.
I don't know but a race to add teams amongst B1G, SEC and Big 12 probably bodes real well for the C7. Add Xavier and Butler and then see what is leftover after those conferences get to 16.

Im not a conference realignment junky... Have all of these WVU fans been right about anything? In other words, have they thrown enough $hit at the wall such that at least one turd stuck?

If there's one school that would excel in making manure sick to a trailer wall, it's WVU.

Heaven forbid people look at data like seating capacity and attendance (FACTS SHMACTS!), as well as do a simple google search to figure out if Providence and Seton Hall have been to Final Fours. For f*** sake, Seton Hall played in one of the more memorable National Championship games. FACEPALM.

The only national championship game etched in my memory like that occurred in late March 1977.
Only one other national championship game mattered -- one that occurred in 1974 when a certain head coach received two consecutive technical fouls from a whistle-happy referee who thought he rather than the game was what people paid to see.
Anything else is just a warm-up for our next national championship. Who cares about the warm-up act?

Today's HS seniors were born around 1995. I doubt they remember that 1989 National Championship game with Seton Hall. Nor would they remember PC's 1987 final four or DePaul's in 1979.
At some point, the statute of limitations runs out on using a prior final four run/national championship as a reason why the public today should pay any attention. I think Seton Hall is probably long past that point (as has Providence and DePaul). At some point, you have to renew that success for contemporary audiences to think if you as a successful team.
Agreed that those Final Fours were many moons ago compared to '03, but for a poster to suggest that we drop Seton Hall or Providence, etc., claiming that they haven't been to a Final Four should be corrected on that blatant ignorance.
