Compare the style of play from the Lazar/Acker/Cubillan to this year's team. That team was one of the smallest in D1, Buzz won with good shooters, no size and no depth. Last year's team pressed a lot. This year, we have size and depth, but lack elite shooting and appear to play better at a slow tempo, alternating zone with man-to-man. And Buzz finds ways to win with all of these different combinations. The guy can flat out coach. Of course, there is always room for improvement, but sit back and think about all of the different styles and combinations that Buzz has won with at MU. Time to give the man his due.
Except when knowing when to foul when up three, despite having similar situations in the previous two games.

...and how many of those games did we win? I'll default to the man on the sidelines. The arms of my chair are wearing a bit thin.

All's well that ends well
He's definitely a special coach. I don't think I've ever seen a guy with his work ethic.

+100
I wish the Bears could find a coach that plays the style that suits his team's strengths as well as maximizes individual player talent. Honestly, he's done an incredible job from year to year in identifying exactly what type of defense, offense and tempo best works for his team and which role is best for each player. It's amazing. There are always some bumps at the beginning of the year, but by March/April, we're always playing our best basketball. Reminds me a bit of the Izzo trends.

Has it not been argued to death before that this is not a sure fire bet, and that our own late Rick Majerus did not like the idea of fouling up by three?
It is not as slam dunk a decision as people make it out to be and I bet coaches are about 50/50 on the proposition.
That said....
....FOUL.

Even Buzz himself said foul under 10 seconds during his postgame show after the Georgetown game!
That's what gets me about the whole thing!

Or at least guard the dude. How a guy is wide open with 5 defenders on 4 players is beyond me.

The problem here is that, if he wanted to foul with 1.2 to go he would have had to call a time out to get the players on the same page. Do you call a time out when Pitt has no timeouts left?

Buzz talked about it after the game in detail with Homer and Mac and made a compelling reason why the should not.
He can coach and that was a deliberate, an correct, call.

I don't believe a timeout is necessary.

Buzz is a really good coach...yes, plays like that at the end do drive me nuts. I know he trusts his guys, but I've seen too much in college basketball (not just from us) to trust kids in the moment. He's still a really good coach, but I would like him to tighten those things up a bit.

he must change his mind often. i just watched the buzz williams show in which he went in-depth on why he didn't want to foul, especially given his team. he gave the same reason i heard majerus give on espn a few years back...it's the only way to loose the game. majerus also said the data was 50/50 on it, so if that's the case, and buzz in uncomfortable with our rebounding (which is what he stated), then it makes sense to me.
