Title: Looney's Coach
Post by: gmhfordham1015 on January 10, 2013, 12:31:56 PM
Is Looney's coach, Tom Diener, Travis' dad. Could help land him. Saw this in a JS article: Hamilton coach Tom Diener said his star player doesn't get flustered when he's having an off night offensively.

Diener may send him to SLU or DePaul if we're not careful.

According to wikipedia, Tom is Travis' uncle...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Travis_Diener

"Another uncle, Tom Diener, is the former boys basketball coach at Milwaukee Vincent, where he won five state titles, tied for the most of any coach in Wisconsin high school basketball history. He currently is the head coach at Milwaukee Hamilton High School."

It's his Uncle Tom, not Dad.

I am pretty sure that Looney is well prepared to make call along with his parents. If he goes to MU I will be shocked.

Are Drake (DePaul) and Drew Diener (SLU) Tom Diener's kids?  Or are they nephews, too?

They are nephews also.  Drew and Drake are brothers, whose Dad is Dick--Travis' HS coach and uncle.  I think that is the way it goes.

Wow, what a family.

Is Looney good enough to play for Marquette???  Marquette plays hard and aggressive.  Can he play at MU's level?

He's no DJ Newbill, but I'm sure he'll find his place.

Also, has he proven himself in the Big East?  We've got enough recruits who are good at high school basketball.

Yeah...but half-heartedly.

Honestly, we have a rash of new posters saying a bunch of stupid sh*t to get people all excited.  Getting weary.

No problema!  This very weekend, the Marquette team will be working on playing a game while taking their foot off the gas.  In a year and a half they can easily be as slow as Wisconsin.

Bruce Weber's own brother was Jon Scheyer's high school coach.

Scheyer went to Duke without ever really giving Illinois a shot (though he pretended to).

So I wouldn't count on the Diener connection landing Looney for MU. Kids and their parents have their own minds.
