Title: Compelling story possibly.
Post by: JD on January 09, 2013, 05:27:50 PM
Apparently Seattle has just picked up Ryan Longwell for there kicking duties for the rest of the season.

Imagine if Seattle came to Lambeau for the NFC Championship game.  Ryan Longwell, the same cat talking s*it when he was traded to the Vikings how the only thing Green Bay had to offer was Golden Corral.  Also the recent history of Matt Hasselbach saying "we want the football and we're going to score" during Seattle's last playoff trip at Lambeau and you got a receipe for some HARD hitting ball and personal foul flags..

I can only pray this happens.

Or..........

Mason Crosby falls back into his slump, misses a few FGs, and Longwell hits a game winner.  How unbearable would that be?

I think the much more recent history of the "Fail Mary" and the replacement refs costing Green Bay a first round bye will make a much better story line than revenge on a kicker who no one's allowed to hit and a game from a decade ago.  Honestly, no one cares what a kicker has to say.  Peyton Manning said it best.

Quote"Here we are," Manning told Lynn Swann on the sideline. "I'm out at my third Pro Bowl, I'm about to go in and throw a touchdown to Jerry Rice, we're honoring the Hall of Fame, and we're talking about our idiot kicker who got liquored up and ran his mouth off."

Clearly they're not going to just focus on what Longwell said years ago, it's obvious the "fail Mary" is the biggest storyline, but the hasselback, longwell, etc also make it even more enticing

Long well and Hasselback would barely get a mention.

I think the only player left when Longwell was on the team was Aaron Rodgers.  And the "we're going to score" game was back in 2003.  Ancient history, and irrelevant, to the current players.

Not to mention that the Packers have beaten the Seahawks in Lambeau since then.

Thanks for bringing this up. I would never have remembered back to that. It may be from several years back but it's just goes to show how far Seattle has come. It may be irrelevant to the players but I'm sure Seattle fans haven't forgot about it. They're a much better team now. I'd like to see this covered more than the so called 'Fail Mary'. Tired of hearing about that.

I agree about the fans...I was mostly commenting about those being motivation for "hard hitting football."

I mean, it's going to be hard hitting because its the NFC Championship Game...not because of Ryan Longwell and something Matt Hasselbeck said a decade ago.

Pretty sure Longwell wasn't traded to the queens and no this really isn't compelling at all. Maybe the R. Wislon angle coming back to Wisconsin.  Better yet, how about winning in San Fran first.

Pretty sure, wait, I AM sure you're wrong, look it up.   Longwell apparently wasn't too fond of Green Bay, here's a little bit of what was said..

BY BOB SANSEVERE
Pioneer Press
Here's Vikings kicker Ryan Longwell:
Every town in America has an Applebee's restaurant. In Green Bay, Applebee's was about as fancy as you got. When my wife, Sarah, and I would get a baby sitter, a nice date night was Applebee's. In Minnesota, I'm sure there will be plenty of options before Applebee's comes into the rotation.

My point was simply theres a lot of storylines here besides the fail mary, Rodgers being passed up by the 9ers, Hasselback at Lambeau, Longwell as shown above, etc.

Go Pack.
