Maui Invitational field set
The Marquette Golden Eagles will face the host Chaminade Silverswords at 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 19 in the opening game of the Maui Invitational, the tournament announced on Tuesday.
By drawing Division II Chaminade, MU in essence will be considered the top-seeded team in a tournament that also includes the likes of Duke and Illinois.
The game will be televised on ESPN2.
Should the Golden Eagles win the opener, they'll face the winner of LSU-Oklahoma State on Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. on ESPN.
If MU wins that game, it will play the following night at 9 p.m. in the championship game on ESPN. If MU loses in the second round, it will play at 3:30 p.m. in the third-place game on ESPN2.
Arizona State and Princeton round out the field of the 24th annual tournament, which is played at the Lahaina Civic Center in Maui, Hawaii.
The Golden Eagles will arrive having won the last four early-season tournaments in which they've played - the Great Alaska Shootout in 2001 and 2005, the BCA Classic in 2004 and the CBE Classic in 2006.

If MU and LSU win, does that mean we get the Dameon Mason match-up? He has one more year of eligibility, I think. Oooooooooooooooh.
I think it will more likely be a very tough second round game versus OSU. They return Mario Boggan and JamesOn Curry from a team that faired ok in the Big 12 last year. Overall a nice draw since even if we loose this game we get a consolation game against another good opponent. I just do not see us choking against Chaminade - we are very good in these pre season tournaments.

JamesOn Curry was drafted by the Bulls.

If they have boggans they will still provide a tough matchup.

I'm fairly certain that Boggan was a Senior last season.
It looked to me like there were 2 years where he did not play so maybe he has some eligibility???

ESPN networks to televise all 12 games of Thanksgiving week college basketball tourney
MAUI, Hawaii, Aug. 7, 2007 – The EA SPORTS Maui Invitational has today announced the official bracket for the 2007 edition of the nation's premier early-season college basketball tournament. Marking its 24th year, the eight-team competition will return to Maui's Lahaina Civic Center, located less than 1,000 yards from the Pacific Ocean.
Seven NCAA Division I teams and host Chaminade University of Honolulu will ignite the college hoops season Nov. 19-21 with hopes of winning the coveted EA SPORTS Maui Invitational Wayne Duke Championship Trophy, won last year by 2007 Final Four participant UCLA.
ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPNU will again combine to offer live television coverage of all 12 tournament games. In addition, ESPN360.com will provide live simulcasts of the games televised on ESPN and ESPN2.
"Year after year, the EA SPORTS Maui Invitational ushers in the college basketball season with marquee fields," said Tournament Chairman Dave Gavitt. "Basketball fans are in store for another strong tournament field featuring highly ranked teams when Maui becomes the mecca of college basketball this November."
First-round action tips off on Monday, Nov. 19, with Game One featuring Pac West member and tournament host, Chaminade, led by third-year coach Matt Mahar, taking on former national champion and Maui newcomer Marquette, under head coach Tom Crean. The winner of this tournament opener will tackle the winner of Game Two, in which two-time Maui participant, LSU, piloted by coach John Brady, will face two-time national champion Oklahoma State, making its debut on the Maui hardwood with coach Sean Sutton at the helm. The Ivy League will take the court in Game Three, as first-year coach Sydney Johnson guides Princeton on its maiden voyage to Maui for a duel with Mike Krzyzewski's perennial powerhouse, Duke, a three-time NCAA champion and the only three-time Maui champion with a flawless 9-0 tournament record. That winner will face the winner of Game Four, which pits 1994 Maui titleholder, Arizona State, coached by Herb Sendek and boasting a 7-5 overall tournament record, tipping off against 2005 national runner-up, Illinois, a Bruce Weber-led team that returns to the island with plans to improve on second and third-place Maui finishes.
The semifinals are set for Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Eastern time, with the winners moving onto the championship game Wednesday, Nov. 21 at 10 p.m. Eastern.

Sorry for the confusion I caused. This potential game keeps getting easier - maybe we will be playing LSU after all.
This seeding allows MU to get 2 quality wins early. A Win over OK state/LSU and U of I/Duke both look good to bracketology

With MU's record in early season tournys, it wouldn't surprise me if they came out hot and won the Maui.
It would be nice to head into conf. play with a 11-0 record (not sure on exactly how many non-conf. games we have) with victories over OSU, DUKE, UW and another major school. With the strength of the Big East I would say that we will be in very good shape for SOS and hopefully for quality wins.

And it wasn't just us that got jobbed in the seeding either. others were way to high and some got shafted worse than us.
