Can someone give Lockett a lesson on how to feed the post?  A good solid bounce pass usually works fairly well.

This game is going to come down to who can get into the bonus first in each half.  free throws and foul trouble are going to be huge here.

I love Cadougan, but this might be a good game to try a lineup like Blue, Mayo, Lockett, Wilson, Gardner.

The high screen and role with Gardner and Blue could be a good combination against GU.

Ah, Junior.

That one isn't on Junior, Blue should have gave that ball up early.  He had a lane if he used the pick correctly.  Instead he dribbled around for 5 seconds and gave it back to Junior, who was double teamed 30 ft from the hoop with 3 seconds on the shot clock.

Junior is the only reason Georgetown is even in this game. What an awful display. And Jamil hasn't been any better.
Title: Re: Georgetown game thread
Post by: nyg on January 05, 2013, 01:54:03 PM
MU has missed 9 shots within 3 feet of basket, whether a reverse layup, drive or whatever.

On 6 occasions it has gone down with one second left on clock to shoot and MU made two prayer threes.  That last possession was just terrible. Blame on Blue and Junior here.

Bad Junior in first half, very bad.

Junior would have at least 4 more assists if the other guys would finish easy layups.  The bad plays by Junior result from players not going to where they are supposed to be when he has driven the lane.  He ends up too deep and has to shoot.

I don't think many people on here understand the pg position much.  If the other guys don't do what they are suppose to you end up looking bad.

Post by: forgetful on January 05, 2013, 01:57:39 PM
Gardner has been completely absent.  He is getting dominated down low and has given up some points (including the last 3) by not being active on D.

Granted, the zone is making it difficult for him.

He did shoot 0-for-6 in the half and was out of control on at least half of those shots.

I'll take a different and more optimistic outlook....I think MU is playing pretty well.  GU is ranked 15th for a reason and their defense is smothering.  The fact we are getting decent shots (for the most part....some are heaves as shot clock winds down, granted) is very encouraging.  GU is long so even seemingly easy shots are more contested than usual.   Start making more of those and we should be fine.  Lets also give some props to OUR defense today.  Outstanding.   Vander is playing like the best player on the court and Lockett looks strong today too.   Juan is a hustle machine and Gardner will get it going.

Looking forward to a great second half (and Jake....when does the hot part of the streak shooting occur?)

Yes, 2 were long 3's at the end of the shot clock.  One where the outlet pass guy ran the wrong way.  2 drives to initiate contact and draw fouls.  And one wide open baseline jumper that just missed.

When he has been out the offense has been incredibly stagnant.  People make wide open lay-ups and he's has 7 assists at the half.

This game isnt really about neither team being able to shoot. It is more the fact that neither team can go 3 straight possessions without doing something dumb. Most of the time two straight is asking too much.

Good game guys. Frustrating. I thought we would win on several occasions. Ball didn't bounce our way today. Got really unlucky, but that's part of the game. I really thought we had it when we were fouled on that three pointer. I thought it was going to be a mirror of our only other victory in Milwaukee as Johnathan wallace nailed three free throws to send the game to overtime in a very similar game. Alas it wasn't too be. Oh well. On to the next one. If we had to lose I guess I'd prefer it be to you. Hopefully we can rebound against Pitt. In both senses since our rebounding was terrible.

9 points 10 rebounds and two very important blocks.  I'll forgive the one bad play.

That one bad play was about as bad as you can get, though.  If that was Blue that did that, I bet a good contingent of the folks here would be chasing him down with pitchforks.

Nail biting big east game.  Great, classy post.  You guys have a great team and unreal defense.  Good luck the rest of the way.

Thanks, I'll root for you guys except on Feb 11 (when you'll likely even the record).  I thought all along you'd pull this one out (especially with our "gift" at the end) but happy to have the ball bounce our way.

When you play with your heart on your sleeve the entire game you can't just turn off aggressiveness.  I think he intended of flying by in front, and jumped closer to him than he intended.

So the next time Blue does something like this, you can chalk it up to him playing with his heart on his sleeve and being aggressive.  Good?  Good.

Yes - and these announcers are REALLY in the tank for G

Nonsense. The typical  victimization of the unsophisticated fan.

Yet Lockett almost made another boneheaded foul on his missed FT at the end with Lubick 85 feet from the basket attempting the heave?!

Bonehead plays aside, this was Trent's best game at MU..he at least always plays hard with everything he's got.

Wow...and Lockett almost got another foul on his FT miss with Lubick 85 feet away from the hoop...wtf is the guy thinking??

When they blew the whistle, I thought they had called another foul on him. Plus what was he doing with those two free throws?

I thought they called a foul on Gardner on the reach in for the rebound.

I couldn't believe any MU players were even on the fouline lineup.  Don't take a chance.

I think you have to put two people there just so there's somebody between GU and an open look. But you don't even have the MU players jump to contest the rebound.

How's the crowd look?  No panorama of the BC on ESPN3 yet...

Lower bowl, including student section, full (and students on their game, I thought).  400 level close to full in middle sections; one end filled about halfway up, the other about 70% up.

Let the great rivalry continue.  Thanks for your participation on scoop.  I'm cheering for all C7 schools from now on.

As some other posters have said, a classy post. I couldn't agree more. Not the prettiest game to watch but adds to the rivalry which is a very good thing. Looking forward to the C-7. Ring out Ahoya and good luck to the Hoyas.

I was disappointed with the crowd.  You were impressed huh?

For a game over winter break, especially on an afternoon when 90% of the sports fans in the city were gearing up for a Packer playoff game, it was a pretty good crowd. It wasn't a great crowd, but when was the last time we had a great crowd before classes were back in session?
