From Mike DeCourcy. Sorry if this was posted already, but I didn't see it:
Marquette will travel to Vancouver over the Labor Day holiday and already has used a few of its 10 allotted practices to prepare for the four games in Canada. The sessions allow coach Tom Crean to experiment with a four-guard lineup that will require junior G/F Wesley Matthews to deal with opposing power forwards and join a rotation that includes Jerel McNeal, Dominic James, David Cubillan and Maurice Acker. Trouble is, Cubillan might not make the trip. He made the Venezuelan national team, and if that squad reaches the semifinals of the Americas Olympic qualifying tournament, Cubillan will be occupied.

Interesting....TC has a lot of match-up options this year....if he plays Fitz (has played PG) or Laz, he really goes 5 guards. Scrambled Eggs. My guess is that he'll use this line-up earlier in the year against less talented teams in order to pressure the ball and force turnovers...and to give BE teams something else to think about when scouting/planning adjustments. Don't see it being used as much in the BE in actuality other than offering up a new look off a time out.
I'm not sure Fitz is coming back... I'm actually kinda confused about it. I heard fitz say he is applying for jobs and is not coming back... i heard it from his mouth. But at the same time he is playing with the team and is on campus... i don't know it is confusing we'll see what happens... it coulda just been bar talk.

That would suck!!! One of our best shooting options would leave the team with one year of eligibility left! I like Fitz and he played pretty well the second half of the BE conf. season last year. I have (had) high hopes for him this year.

This is why there should be breathalizers on computers...
Actually I was completly sober writing that. It really did come straight out of his mouth, albeit at a bar. I just don't know if I really believe it. I could understand how he would want to move on with his life but to pass up a free year of grad school and to still be on campus makes it very perplexing. I don't know what Fitz is really thinking but there is at the very least a strong desire to move on with his life. Whether or not he will do it reamains to be seen.
You may have been sober, but was Fitz?
That's strange, usually athletes hold on too long not the other way around. If he does leave then our weed-toting friend saunders will have a scholarship ;)
(From what I heard .. Saunders wasn't "weed-toting" .. but was in a place (car?) with guys who were, but all were booked. So he might be just hanging with the wrong dudes.)
Regardless .. it's August 7th. You'd think we'd know our roster by now!
Obviously the jump from highschool to D1 ball is huge, but didn't Acker and McNeal play in a 4 guard line-up in highschool?
I'm not saying that's why it will work for MU, but if MU can dictate match-ups on offense and manage to defend well enough with 4 guards on the floor at once... well, then it will probably work pretty well in limited doses.
McNeal should be able to lock-up most 3's, so the biggest question is if Wes can hold his own against a bigger and stronger player. (I'm assuming the little guys at both guard spots will be able to hold their own considering they aren't really out of position).
Even if he wasn't sober it still brings things into question... why would he say that, even drunk, if he had not at least thought about it
he may be applying for jobs. he has graduated. from what the plan was, he'd start grad school here. but that wouldn't make sense cuz i dont think you can have a job and be on a sports team...maybe he's looking early for next april, he is a smart guy, get some interviews and whatnot and say he'll be able to start in april.
all of this is speculation though
Why would Fitz transfer and waste a year of eligibility just to sit out his senior year, and this will also probably be the best team of his college career.

Who said anything about transfering?

once you finish your undergrad, you can transfer for your 4th year of eligiblity to another school without sitting out a year. The kid from UNLV that was lights out vs. the badgers in the NCAA did that. Unless the NCAA stopped that.

I think the NCAA stopped that already after last year...IIRC
spartan that has got to be the dumbest thing i ever heard! you talking about the one white guy at murphys hanging out with ous? some fan you are! that would be the manager who is leaving and applying for jobs. get your ish straight before you go running to the papers... not all white boys look alike.

I believe he's talking about his prior transfer TO MU from Tulane. He transferred here, then sat out a year, and now won't play his final year of eligibility????
no it was fitz bud, Ouseman was not there...
I reiterate however that I am not positive about the situation I just heard bar talk. Take it or leave it, I head it and I know for sure it was Fitz (I should know he was in my Acco class last semester) and the words came out of his mouth. He may have a change of heart or just be debating it but I know what I heard.
i think we need a little spelling lesson on how to spell Ousmane. now that we got that out of the way, let's discuss the simple fact that Fitz is not going anywhere except to the top of leaders for this year's squad. lame-o's like you can run around talking "bar talk" but that gets us nowhere. sit back, buy your season tickets, brag to your boys about that sweet acco class when you day dreamed about Fitz, and enjoy the show.

ps. i didn't know people still used 'bud'... cool though.
Thanks for the personal attacks. I'll be sitting in the student section this year by the way... in the front row like i did last year. I'm not trying to get into a fight with you. We (this board) have been trying to figure out the scholarship situation for the last couple months and I was just attempting to put out another possibility, a possibility I heard first hand. I was not bragging about my class with Fitz I was simply stating a fact that I knew who Fitz was. You claimed that I thought "all white boys looked the same" while in fact I know who Fitz is, It's hard to miss a guy that tall in class. You need to take it down a notch and lay off the personal attacks. I said it was speculation. I was just throwing out another possible solution to the scholarship problem so lay off thanks.

I wanna believe you in this case because you've been quite determined in bringing it out but one question: why would Fitz be talking with you about his life? Doesn't sound like you two are friends so I'm curious as to how you get into that type of conversation at a bar with a player. When I was younger, I too was in a bar with players and believe me jobs was a conversation that never came up. I'm sure that's the case with everyone else who's had the same encounter.

were those players ever graduated from college?? cuz fitz is no longer an undergrad so it would make sense for him to talk about finding a job, whether it be part time or full time once the season is done with.
Just to clear things up a big...Fitz is still in undergrad working on a second major. I highly doubt he is looking for jobs while enrolled full-time and with the basketball season around the corner.
fitzy's so smart, he can get two majors in the same time it takes most ppl to get one!! lol, jk, but that's sweet if that is the case.
