Title: Home overtime victory
Post by: SaveOD238 on January 02, 2013, 02:16:30 PM
It's hard to believe, but last night was our first home overtime victory since Nov 13, 2006 against Idaho St!  We've only played in three others since then: Notre Dame in '10 (our fourth OT in five games, but the other three were all road victories), Syracuse in '09, and Georgetown in '08.

In fact we haven't played any OT games in nearly two years, since we beat UConn on the road in '11

I can't remember the last time I saw a buzzer-beater in person.  That was electric :)

I forgot to erupt along with the rest of the crowd.  Honestly didn't believe it went in after oh for 14.

I was at the '08 & '09 Games -- that was the opposite of electric.

That Georgetown game is still stuck in my head to this day.  As it probably is in D James' head as well.

Even after that loss, that will go down as the greatest game I've ever been to at the Bradley Center. The environment at the BC was unbelievable. Students given glow sticks prior for introduction. That crazy put back by Dwight Burke for the And-1. And of course that terrible foul call...DJ had all ball.

Anybody remember a game winning (or tying) three point shot like that at home?  Does one have to go all the way back to the great Doc Rivers shot against Notre Dame?  Certainly there have been road shots including last year's by Jae.

Novak did that to Notre Dame I think.

Technically that was a 2

But absolutely one of the all time shots in team history.  It had slipped my mind as I wasn't at the game.

I was at the Notre Dame game in '06 and the game last night. Last night was awesome, but it doesn't even come close to Novak's shot in terms of crowd excitement and overall experience (might also have something to do with the fact I was a student in '06 and now I am an alum in the upper deck, and that my dislike of UCONN comes nowhere close to my hatred for ND). That Novak shot was the best in-person MU experience I've ever had.

Agreed, that Novak shot was probably the most electric I've ever seen a sports crowd in a single instance in person.

There was also a huge snow storm that took place during the game I believe.  We walked out of the BC to over a foot of snow IIRC.

Plus there were more than 12,000 at the ND game.  Much better atmosphere.

I'm sure you're right.  Last night was more like a "Holy Sh*t" moment.  That's what '0-7,000' as coach would say would do.  But it was perfection in the air and the replay that shows the usher in the background with his arms up while the ball was in flight is priceless.

Ill never forget Louisville at home in 2003. Dieners tying three and then Ville jacking up another game winning three from 30+ feet.

Watched that game in my lucky MU hoodie, sitting in a bar in Savannah, GA.  The locals next to me offered their condolences. The bartender even bought me a beer.  Gut wrenching loss, but it did teach me to never underestimate the healing power of free beer.

The girlfriend and the couch won the battle for where I watched last night but having been in attendance for Novak, Jerry Smith and Dameon Mason, the Novak shot was definitely the greatest moment  Ive seen at an MU game and the flipside was definitely Jerry Smith and it was the lowest, I felt worse after that shot than I did walking out after the Western Michigan NIT loss

You son of a bitch.  I was there and remember watching the shot go in, and then 10 seconds later the crowd noticing that we had lost.  The place was still going wild from Diener nailing his 3 at the opposite end.

Maybe someone can help me out here. Anyone remember the name of the MU player that hit a turn around 2 for the tie and got fouled then made the free throw for the win. I know it's not much to work with because i can't even remember who it was against but i would say it was probably around the Wade era or close to it. I do know the guy transferred the year after. I'm sure if any of you were there you would remember it.

I also remember Diener had just fouled out a real questionable call and the refs had to escorted out of the place, hopefully that helped.

Same here. I was waiting for us to call a timeout. Add that to how far away he was, I thought it had little chance of going in. Junior walked away like he knew it from the second it left his hand.

Agree completely.  I think the billing as the next D-Wade was a little too much for him to handle.  We did rush the court after waiting for the final .8 seconds to tick off though, so that was fun.

So did Homer momentarily if you listen to the radio call.  He had originally thought Boatright's great shot was a 3.  He was lucky to correct himself just as JC was winding up to then successfully call the historic shot.

Huge snow storm.  I spun out approaching a toll booth on the way back to Chicago.  I'm sure I was driving way too fast because my blood was up.  I recall reading somewhere that the BC noise after that shot was on the order of an airplane engine.

I was at the game that Lucas hit the game winner against UW, leading to Al's table dance and the famous Hugh's picture. I saw Doc's buzzer beater against Notre Dame. I also saw Ice Clay's buzzer beater to end MU's 82 home court win streak. Overall I have seen MU lose more games on buzzer beaters than I have seen them win. Does anyone want to see Buzz do a table dance?

I was listening to last 2 minutes on my iPad (ESPN Radio app). When Homer said "unbelievable, unbelievable" I started my finger towards the lock switch.  Just as I was about to switch it off, he says "was it a three" and I stopped myself just in time to hear Cadougan's shot.

Now had I been a split second faster, I would have locked the iPad and one of two things would have happened: A) I would have gone to bed assuming MU had lost (because even more depressing than a heartbreak loss is reading about said loss on Scoop) or B) since the audio continues for about a second after the screen locks, I probably would have heard "Cadougaaaaan..... (click)" which probably would have caused a highly audible WTF (waking up the kids) and/or an unsuccessful attempt to teach my iPad to fly.

I really hate Homer.  And by hate, I mean I nearly have a coronary every time I listen to his call on a big game.

Damn, I was at the aforementioned games as well along with heartbreak city games in Athens, GA vs tOSU and Baton Rouge vs. IU.
Personally, I'd opt for a Kate Upton lap dance.

I was at the game we lost on Rick Mount's shot in 1968. Like the loss to Ohio St. in 1971 the pain of loss was somewhat offset by the belief that next year would be our year, since on paper the next year's team would be better. Of course I was at the Notre Dame game in 1969 when all we had to do was get the ball in with 4 seconds to go and we win. We turn the ball over and Notre Dame scores and goes on to win in overtime. Results in McGuire turning down NCAA bid when they place us outside our region. NIT title is a nice story, but turning down that bid still sucks as that team had a good chance to make final 4. In 1972 we were undefeated when Chones jumped ship. Another good chance at final 4 gone. Four straight years with good shot at making final four with only disappointment. At that point I did not think it would ever happen.

Losing both Chones and Lucas to the pros was almost too much to take back then. Chones, McNeil and Lucas playing together would have made the best Marquette team ever.
