congrats - you are wonderful MU fans and parents when you yell "Vander sucks" and have your 4 grade school children and/or their friends yell it with you. This occurred in the second half after Vander's missed 3 pointer in the second half...
you must be so proud...
Pathetic. So glad to see him shutting so many of the haters up with his play this year.
His touch around the basket is a night and day difference from last year.
Yeah after being ineffective in the first half, he certainly played well in the second.
Wow, madtown, that's pretty sad.
Vander made his biggest shot of the year, a nice backboard 3. He has come a long way in 2 years, but needs this year and next to make a bigger jump. I do wonder if he is able to
build up his body a little bit, seems awful skinny still but really improving around the basket. Still along way to go, but improvement is there, congrats on a good second half of the game
today.

You sure they didn't have a little red on and may have been named BFran, Becky, Butch, Swenson, Bud, Myles and the rest of the clown gang? Were they ripping on Wes Matthew's mother also?

What did they do after Vander hit the bank 3 in ot? What an incredible bunch of jackasses.
Even if Vander really did play poorly, you just don't do that to a college kid.
Obviously, you can't spell "classless" without the a-s-s.
Prolly the same folks who were walking to their seats after the tip because they wanted to watch as much of the badger game as possible. I was sickened when I saw MU shirts and badger hats. I'm not sure if the idiots you are referring to fall into that category but they are a disgrace nonetheless. I've cut down players on this team on this board but when you are at the game, you cheer. It's not the time to yell crap like that.
I was hoping they were just frustrated badger fans after the RB loss but they all had MU gear on.
pretty sad to hear the dad and kids yell it...
how a fan can yell a college player sucks is beyond me, how they let their / encourage their kids to do it makes me sad for the younger generation being raised by a parent like that...
tried to listen for the rest of the game but the overall crowd got pretty loud as the game went on from there... if heard again, i would have turned around and asked if they know what being a fan means...

We must have been in the same section. Heard the same thing. Grandpa, dad and two boys--dad swearing and the boys yelling at refs, then UConn fans, and then Van. Good job.
I leaned over to my buddy and thought they were filming that poor sportsmanship is learned behavior commercial. If they didn't, they certainly could have.
Which section? I have a similar guy behind me in the 400's who continuously spouts off despite the fact that he is terrible uneducated about basketball
In my experience, those who bitch the most about players and coaching tend to know the least about the game. This message board being an exception

I find this true as well. Sitting in a room with my 5 close college buddies, none of whom played basketball, I feel like they are the quickest to bitch about the players. Seems like that is the easy way to react during the game when they really don't have a clue whats going on.

There is a dude who sits near me who HATES Vander.
Even in the Wisco game he hated Vander. I didn't think that was possible.
I have no idea what this dudes deal is... other than the fact that he is very overweight and probably crabby about most things in his life.
He bitched last year about Jae's hair and pre-game routine as well.
I have an idiot woman who sits directly behind me and says the most stupid things.
Here's a gem from last night: "Look at that: Junior, Trent, Davante, Vander....the only one on the floor that has a regular name is Steve Taylor."

Yikes.
I hope she doesn't watch hockey, where 1/2 of the guys are French-Canadian or European/Russian... the names are significantly harder.

Since when are Junior and Trent unusual names? ;D
Whenever I see Marquette fans acting like jags or idiots, I always hope that they cheer for Marquette because of a family connection or because they consider MU their hometown team, and not because Marquette actually gave degrees to these morons.

Ahh..."traditionals."
mine were in 102 (they were either in the upper part of 102 or could have been lower 207/208)

Unfortunately for Marquette fans, this behavior has happened more then it should in last decade. Correlation with entitled child society?
Vander is still well behind the vitriol directed at Dominic James and Scott Merritt.

You wouldn't believe how close you are to my family! Tom, Mary, John, Beth, Bob, JoAnn, Jan, Jim.
Also, I was in 207 (pretty far back though). i didn't hear any Vander bashing

Not only entitled child society, but I've noticed it's been correlated with the emergence of cellular data networks, NY Giants Superbowl wins, and Rianna getting to the top of the charts.
Correlation!

Sarah Palin says those names are not unusual at all. Except Steve.

How did Jan get in there? Is there a St. Janet I am not aware of?
She must have been floored by the names of Enosch and Shabazz then.

Probably not. They go to a Godless public university, after all.
The old guy who sits in the row in front of us upstairs is as "traditional" of a fan as one can be... and he loves Vander. Go figure.
Happens everywhere. UCLA and USC games, same thing. I go to Cal State Fullerton baseball games, same thing. I've seen it happen to to Caucasians, African Americans, short guys, tall guys, you name it.
People who pay for tickets feel entitled to take pot shots. I can see it in the pros, where they are making money to play. Do not think it is appropriate in college, regardless of how highly you were ranked by some recruiting service, etc.

I guess there are more horses asses in the world than horses.
This is why I don't like to take my (7 year old) son to the games... people should at least take a look around before they start spouting off vitriol at MU players... for my part, the worst I did was to loudly boo the refs, which was well-deserved...

That stinks. NFL games are not family friendly at all, but for the most part I thought MU games pretty good.
Maybe that's because I don't have a kid.
At NFL game nothing would surprise me. I would hope MU fans show more class in future games.

I'd argue that a Marquette game is a wonderful family event. Sure there is the occasional idiot but for the most part the fans and the student section are fantastic and very supportive. Usually, it doesn't get any more 'blue' than the "You Suck!" chant. And we all cherish that like an old shoe.
In fact, I remember last year when the students invited a bunch of UWM kids down to the floor seats just so they could chant that at each other. High fives all around between the two groups when it ended. All good fun.
