Apparently they're now trying to add UNLV and Fresno State as football members.

Big East football has lost all credibility, how can they possibly call themselves the Big "East", gotta change the name of the conference with these new additions
How sad, really, to see the Big East slide into inconsequence and irrelevance. Basketball made the Big East. It was never about football.
Suspect a new name will emerge, assuming the league survives.
What surprises me is that they want UNLV for football but not hoops. Maybe they figure if they take them for hoops, they'll have to take them for all sports, and then it becomes a travel issue.

The geographic dilution should make keeping the name a non-issue. Unless the flannel suits in NYC have a refined sense of irony.
It's kinda nice to effectively be on the sidelines for this.

+1. What a train wreck.

Hopefully that means they want to give up the Big East Name.

Part of that is because the travel for football isn't a killer, but it is for all the other sports. A school may be willing to do football in one conference but not the other sports.
UNLV isn't exactly a football powerhouse and Fresno isn't nearly what they were a few years ago either.
I doubt this will have any impact on the conference name. As we've seen from the Big 10, conference names are about brand identity, not logic. I'm afraid we would have to put up quite a lot of cash if we were to get Big East naming rights.

The same could have been said when ND was added to the BE.
The same could have been said when VPI, Miami and BC were lost and USF, Cincy and UL were added.
The same could be said when the Big EAST added a school in Illinois and Wisconsin.
If the C7 pays more than 1 Million for the BE name, they've paid too much. It's value keeps going down as long as the football schools continue to use it. It has little to no value to the football schools anymore. If the C7 end up paying Millions or giving up Millions for this name, then they've been fleeced.
I'd prefer the Metro Conference, Big Metropolitan Conference or something of the sort, unless it comes for 1 Million or less.

The Big MaC?
Could this be a great thing in the making? Say UNLV does go to the BEast for football as the article says.
Notice the article said for football only, well why would UNLV want their basketball to stay in the Mountain, would they possibly consider the C7?!?!
I know it's a dream, but is it probable if that happens?
How about the College Basketball Conference?

You beat me to it by five minutes. UNLV would be an awesome addition to the C7 with slightly less travel issues than Gonzaga. Do you think that there are many flights to Vegas?

Indeed, UNLV probably has more star power than Georgetown possibly. If you look at tournament apperances, FF, Championships.
Plus my best friend is a huge fan, it would be awesome if we could talk S*** more often! ;D

Well phuck, we should do it for this reason alone.
Better road trip: Vegas, Dayton or Spokane?

How would that reflect on women's volleyball, track, golf, tennis, soccer, etc?

Before or after the mortgage payment has been made?
Are the football schools just throwing darts at random now? These are the schools they choose to help their football league?

How can the Big 10 keep that name with 14—and counting—members????
How about Houses of the Holy for the new conference name?

It's all about the brand name. With the network, it wouldn't be practical to change the conference name. Sort of like how the NFC West was still called the NFC West when Carolina and Atlanta were in the division.

Understood. Only pointing out that the Big East has plenty of company when it comes to inappropriate conference names. The Big 10 has 14 teams...the Big XII has 10 teams...the SEC has Missouri...and the AAC has Syracuse, Pitt, ND, and BC.
