Title: Let us pray
Post by: jsglow on December 14, 2012, 01:05:09 PM
I know we're all having basketball fun today but a tragedy of unimaginable proportions is unfolding out east.  Let us all pray for the victims.

Mods, please move this to Superbar once folks have had a chance to see.

25 minutes from my house.  I used to work in Newtown also so I may know someone connected.  Just horrible.  My wife teaches in the next town over and they have been in lockdown all day.

My wife and I are just heartbroken.

It's unfortunately not that unimaginable.

Just absolutely tragic. So many children.

The latest local thing floating around is his mom was a teacher at the school and may be among the dead and there may be a body at his parents house.  None of this makes any sense???  So heartbreaking.

This really makes conference talk seem silly. Literally cannot stop thinking about these children and their families. One of the saddest days I can remember and we have had too many in last decade. This is hitting me in similar way that 9/11 did.

The only thing I can offer is my thoughts and prayers.  I'm beyond a loss of words.

I don't know about you guys, but I just don't have the energy to debate SLU vs. Creighton any more today.  Frankly, just doing my job has been tough enough.  God bless.

The historians in our modern media forget about this one:

May 18, 1927 : In the deadliest mass school murder in United States history, former school board member Andrew Kehoe set off three bombs in Bath Township, Michigan killing 45 people and wounding 58. Kehoe killed himself and the superintendent by blowing up his own vehicle.

Two of my own kids are elementary school teachers.  Both are really rattled today.  Those poor parents in Newtown have to ID their children in the killing field itself.  I don't think I could handle that.  God help us.

I agree this is terrible tragedy.  And, as a father of 4, it has affected me.

That said, I come here to get away from this stuff.  Sports is our escape.

Please consider that this incident has no place on this message board.

This incident belongs on top of every message board in America. Heavy hearts everywhere and nothing else seems as important because of this. I respectfully disagree on your post MU84.

I would love to hug and kiss my grandchildren and tell them everything is going to be all right, but I do not know if that's the case. Very, very tragic day.

Indeed, it belongs.  While 27 were physically wounded.. millions more were wounded in a different way today.  It helps to commune.

Well put. It's high time to stop sweeping this crap underneath the rug as if it doesn't exist.

Just so everyone understands my purpose yesterday, I had clicked over to jsonline simply to see if Mike Hunt had written anything new and was confronted with the headline.  I believed that many on this board might not have been aware as of that moment and was confident that folks would want to hear ASAP.  You'll note my original comment suggested that the mods move this once the word had spread.  My only goal was to provide that very first 'Did you hear?' notice.  I trust you're all okay with that as I would have wanted any of my friends to tell me immediately.

I also use this board for escape.  And I intend to do the same today at the BMO BC and the Pat Summit Women's game.  God bless those families experiencing pain I can't even imagine and Go, Marquette, Go, Go, Go.

Jsglow, if you're apologizing, please don't. Your intent was all for the best, and this tragedy trumps talk of basketball, even if only for a few minutes. I'm feeling extra blessed that I can go get some escape from this horror later today. I can't imagine what that community must be going through, and will go through for the rest of their lives.

But...go Warriors.

MUScoop was my relief yesterday too.  The tragedy was too close to home.  Thank God I had an outlet yesterday.
