What to call the new league?
Marquette leaving the Big East to form a new basketball-centric league is a done deal.

Interesting that Hunt is reporting Butler's and Xavier's entry to the new conference as fact. Obviously they're pretty much atop the list of candidates, but this is the first I've seen that characterized as a done deal.
Also note that he reports there will be a rotating tournament site. So long MSG, I guess.
The Big East
Yeah, um, where did Hunt hear 1) this is a new league and not a dissolve/reform Big East, 2) Xavier and Butler have been invited and accepted the invites, 3) where they're holding conference tournaments? I've seen none of this reported anywhere else.

ESPN is reporting they are leaving, not dissolving or anything...
can they disolve the league?...reports starting to surface that 2 football schools would have to approve/ vote for it.

But also reporting that they "don't know how" they will leave, which would indicate dissolving is in play.

2/3 vote needed, they win 7-3.

Yeah, I've read that but don't see it anywhere in the actual documents that have been presented.
Vote to dissolve 7-3. Vote for who owns naming rights 7-3. Vote for who owns MSG site 7-3. Vote on settlement of funds 7-3. Vote on media rights 7-3. Clear cut who wins out unless the bylaws were changed.

Yep, act now and deal with the litigation later.
Well if Gonzaga and St. Marys join as a package the Big East would be a misnomer. How about the Big Hoops Conference!

And if you get sued counterclaim alleging a frivolous lawsuit. The counterclaim would have as good a chance of winning as the original lawsuit.
Big East. If not, a name without a number in it.
what the what? Butler and X are already invited? rotating tournament sites?
where did this all come from??
I'm taking Hunt's blog with a gigantic grain of salt. There are a lot more plugged in BE writers that haven't reported anything like this yet.
He could be right, but I'm a little skeptical.
Screw the BCS Conference
Call it the Big East. In addition to Butler and Xavier, take Gonzaga and 2-4 others. Have a rotating site. One year at Madison Square Garden. The next year at MSG. The year after that at the arena on 7th Avenue between 31st and 33rd Streets in Manhattan. Then go back to Madison Square Garden and continue rotating between those three sites.
Ball is Life Conference? #BIL
the Rectory
The Rock (conference). To emphasize that its about basketball and its sticking around.

Well in that case we should all contribute and buy the rights to call it the MUScoopHoopapolooza
ESPN.com updated their story to say the Catholic 7 are leaving and are discussing the best way to go about that. There's nothing about invitations being given oe accepted, rotating tourney sites, etc. My understanding is the Catholic 7 have the voting majority to do what they want.

They have to leave. This will be their only chance to leave without leaving big money (NCAA tourney share, and probably past exit fees) behind. Once a new football school gets the vote they are stuck unless they want to leave the cash (and other valuable league assets like the name) on the table.
B-East/West.... after we add Creighton, Gonzaga, St. Mary's, SLU, etc.......
