Wah, wah, wah.
Wait...is Bo really complaining about not getting calls in the second half? I'd love to hear what came during that ellipses after him talking about them not getting charge calls.
I realize that Jackson didn't play well, but man did this writer throw him under the bus. It's not like he was the only one one Becky who played poorly.
Refs let both teams play early, but Bo got all the calls in the second half.
Jackson isn't a natural point. He's a combo guard...a poor man's Vander Blue. Marshall is the guy who should be out there, but he's not yet a great defender. Honestly though, what good is having a good defender out there when the guy can't get the offense going?

*cough*
Trent Lockett

You look at the players comments and Bo's comments and you get confused about who the seasoned coaching veteran is supposed to be and who the young headstrong kid still learning about class is supposed to be.
Based on what I saw Saturday, once can draw the following conclusions:
1) Becky Badger is going to have a tough time when the Big 10 schedule rolls around. The Tanned One's team, Michigan, Ohio State and probably Minnesota and Iowa all have quickness generally on par with us. Even with Bruiser in, they're going to have a really tough time competing.
2) We're looking better but I sure would have liked to seen a consistent game from Vander and Junior. There was a time when the Red Rodent came roaring back when I wasn't sure we had the V 3.0 version of Vander or the V 1.0 version. Still, he and Junior are a formidible threat and I'm exciting that we're seeing the Vander we all knew he could be when we recruited him.
We now have LSU and some cupcakes in the weeks ahead. We look forward to more good things.

Trent Lockett isn't MU's point guard. And there is no alternative at the moment.

What? Are you sure you weren't watching a recording of some other game?
Cadougan goes 18/4/6 with one turnover, and Blue goes 17/5/2 with four steals and no turnovers and you want more consistency???

I agree with dgies' comment. The box score doesn't describe the tale of two halves for both players. Cadougan struggled in the first, which is why DWill saw 14 minutes. Blue couldn't quite keep his unbelievable first-half performance going in the 2nd.
I loved what I saw from both of them, but then they both were ice-cold for 20 minutes too. Kinda odd, but it's also nice not having to rely on one guy for an entire game!

But each guy only did it for a half. They should both be putting up 24-28 ppg and a combined 12 rpg+apg without turning it over.

Wah, wah, wah.
This article was written objectively and included very, very little whining by Bucky. It mentioned Bruesewitz's absence -- which, of course, it should have -- without going overboard in using it as an excuse. Bo's one comment on hoping for more charges was quite tame in the whining-for-calls department and every player quoted accepted responsibility for poor play. Jackson even acknowledged Marquette's defense by admitting Bucky was rattled by the pressure.
As a Marquette alum and huge fan, I have zero quibbles with this Madison perspective, and that isn't always the case.

Cadougan was 2-4 with 4 points, 3 assists, 1 steal, 1 rebound and no TOs in 10 minutes of the first half. That's not exactly a bad half. In fact, it's ahead of pace for Junior's game averages. His second half was the best he's played in his 4 years at MU. I'm not going to knock him for being great in crunch time despite being average for the rest of the game.
Blue shot just 1-6 in the second half but had 3 rebounds, an assist, a steal, no TOs and his D had a big hand in UW shooting 31% in the half.

Would you have been happier if they would have had half their stats in the first half and half in the second so they could be more "consistent?" That's just a silly criticism.

It also doesn't take into account changes that Becky made at half time. Coming out at half Evans switched to Vander instead of Lockett on D, which meant Vander had a lot more length to deal with. I would expect his numbers to go down, the pay off should have been Lockett abusing his man, but clearly that didn't happen.

Exactly! A basketball game is 40 minutes long, and adjustments are made along the way. To worry about "consistency," instead of looking at the game as a whole, is silly.
Vander goes 17/5/2 with four steals. Would it have been better for him to go 8/3/1/2 in one half and 9/2/1/2 in the other? Nope.

Ding....Vander built the lead and Junior kept it. Exactly what one would expect from a 2G and a PG.

I didn't read that as Bo complaining about the officiating. I read that as him thinking ad the play was developing that they were going get charges but Cadougan veered off and instead made tough runners rather than charging.
