Title: Mbakwe
Post by: Tugg Speedman on November 27, 2012, 08:41:52 PM
Watching him now on ESPN2

When he played for MU ...

* Tom Crean was the coach
* George Bush was President
* Buying Real Estate was a good idea
* No one had heard of Twitter
* The stock market was at an all-time high
* Favre was the Packers QB
* Al Gore was not a Nobel winner
* Hillary Clinton was the favorite to win the Presidency
* Basketball Player Dennis Johnson was still alive
* Spider Man 3 was the top grossing movie
* Hey There Delilah was a hit
* Lost was still on TV

This might be the best post ever made on MUScoop.

You could add to that that Ferguson and Steve Taylor were 13 year old 7th graders when Mbakwe was at Marquette...

Well done, but a couple of issues with the list.  Twitter was created in 2006 and gained popularity in 2007.  Al Gore won his prize in 2007. The housing market crash began in August of 2007...I blame Mbakwe.  (http://www.stockpickssystem.com/housing-market-crash-2007/).   Dennis Johnson died in February of 2007 while Mbawke didn't join MU until August of 2007.

If Chris Otule plays next year the post can be recycled with some of the very same items including Bush as president, Lost on tv, etc.

You have to admire this young man's commitment to higher education.

Never, ever let the facts get in the way of a good tale.
You probably are not Irish.

Officially added ....

* Steve Taylor was in 7th grade and a foot shorter.

I'm married to an Irish woman, does that count?

It was a good tale, that's for sure.  I figure if you're going to be fast and loose with the facts, you might as well go bigger and bolder.

When Mbakwe played for MU...

The Beatles had not yet invaded America
Elvis Presley was thin Elvis
Al McGuire was doing well at Belmont Abbey
The Minneapolis Lakers were still in Minnesota
Ike was president
Marquette football was coming to an end

By the way Mbawke solicited improper benefits (size 18's) from Jimmy Butler yesterday via Twitter.

Is it early enough in the year so that getting suspended for the year will allow him to qualify for a seventh year?

Nice to see Chicos back.   A long time poster from bulletin boards that probably no longer exist.  And I know, many say he has posted under various names.  I really don't care about that, just nice to see a poster from way back before Dodds even had his current board, if I remember correctly.

However, no reason to pick this list apart, as it is in fun, and close enough to accurate for its intended purpose.  Bush as president, says it all.

He has been around so long, it probably needs to be clarified which Bush was president.

Well, we all were on dial up back then, I bet.  I know I was.  It was state of the art stuff.  Waiting for more than 30 seconds for a page to load wasn't an issue, it sure beat the news/info hole that existed in the 80's and was worse in the 70's pre-cable.  Man am I getting old.  But, just remember, the good old days were not as good as the present.  Enjoy what the "nerds" created.  And now those "nerds" are business people.  Gotta love it.

I still remember going to the library during signing week to check out that out-of-town paper from Milwaukee.
