Marquette jumped 12 spots in one day to land at a much more comfortable 36th today on www.kenpom.com. That's just 2 spots behind where value add had then after mayo's suspension.
The leap was partly due to the 27-point throttling of msu (only favored by 12), but even more due to the 1-point loss to butler being transformed from a bad loss to a team not projected to make the nit to a performance that was 10 points better than unc's performance against a butler team that was much better than Pomeroy (or me) thought they were.
Always root for the teams on the schedule against all other teams!
Good news. Let's come home today after a solid win and let's hope our Bulldog friends take care of Illinois. I'd call that a successful trip.
What is the KenPom predicted score for today's game vs USC?

70-60 with an 82% win probability for Marquette.
I still don't get Pomeroy's love affair with Wisconsin. Maybe we can convince Nate Silver to do some basketball ratings so there would be someone we could trust.

I suggest you read this. Even though it's from last year, it seems to apply every year. It should answer a lot of your questions. If it doesn't, well then I have no answer for you.

Thanks but this is like listening to Tony La Russa explain why he didn't have any idea that McGwire was using PEDs or Karl Rove justifying why he picked Romney to be elected. Not very persuasive.

I'm glad I'm not Pomeroy's bookmaker.

Right now I am thrilled about his love affair with Wisconsin because I believe with Gasser gone we handle them on December 8, and that will really help us with him. With Bilas and others starting to refer to Pomeroy more and more, that could be big come seeding time.

I don't understand why people like Pomeroy's analysis so much. Any analysis this year that has 2-2 Texas at 31 has something seriously wrong with it. I know it is early, but when there are as many teams clearly out of place, they aren't outliers, but rather a flaw in the method that should be fixed.
The flaw with texas is no kabongo. his absence will get baked into the numbers when it is shown he won't return.
