Title: Golfing while at MU
Post by: tower912 on July 20, 2007, 03:18:04 PM
With the PGA tour in Milwaukee this week... who played Brown Deer while in school?   I played there a couple of times.   I played each 9 once.   I shot high 40's each time.  I remember playing that little par 3 course that used to be near the Miller plant (IIRC) as well as another course out by the Harley Plant (IIRC)   I just didn't have that much time to play then. And finding someone who had a car and wanted to play was always a challenge. Now I play to about a 4.

Never played any of the courses mentioned as I just recently started golfing seriously about a year ago.  My buddies and I regularly play Mee Kwon Golf Course in Mequon.  Pretty sweet deal if you show that you are a college student - buy a $10 county card and then M-Th it's $5 and $10 to walk 9 and 18 holes, respectively.  The rate turns out to be about $10 and $20 for 9 and 18 on weekends, but still not bad at all.  The course is usually in good condition.  Not a super difficult course and it's pretty wide open with only water on one hole.  However, for the price you pay, it really can't be beaten.  I usually shoot in the low 90s for 18.

I wish.  Didn't take up golfing until graduate school a few years later, but when I returned to the athletic department I played the MKE county courses all the time.  Played Brown Deer quite a bit along with the two other longer courses in the MKE.  Would play the Bog a few times along with Country Club of Wisconsin, Silver Spring or we would go out west to play.

During lunch we would often play at Doynes (?) and other locales (Swann??), sometimes with the hoops staff who enjoyed their Summers taking a quick break.

You have a 4 handicap...God Bless ya!   I was at best about an 11 right before I got married, now I've got to be in the mid 20's but I don't play enough to even bother.

I've been playing a bunch this summer. The best I have found so far (at a reasonable price for a college student) is the Squires Country Club up in Port Washington. It was only $22 for a weekday 18 while walking and the course was in excellent shape. It wasn't overly difficult but it also wasn't a cake walk. There's views of Lake Michigan from multiple different holes. I was very pleased with the experience. For those who care the link is
