Title: Where was the defense down the stretch?
Post by: CTWarrior on November 19, 2012, 05:08:36 PM
Butler scored on their last 11 possessions and the only reason they didn't score on the possession before that was because they missed the front end of a one and one.

Absolutely. I thought Junior and D. Wilson were really good pressuring the ball, but we couldn't stop penetration anywhere else, and there was no help once they got in the lane. That's amazing to give up points on 11 straight possessions; most of them were layups or dunks too.

Stevens made a great adjustment at half, spreading the floor and isolating Marshall and Jones. Clarke will get all the press, but Marshall was the player of the game. MU had no answer for him.

Is it too early to blame the refs?

I hope that's not why because we fouled them 4 times in that stretch.

Our forwards, other than Juan,  did not show up.   Our bigs help was poor.   Pretty simple.

We should've been pressing from 4 minutes the rest of the way. It worked early, then we went away from it. Huge mistake.

If it wasn't late November I would be more ticked off, but Butler is a good team that has a really good coach. I know that MU is also a good team and is well coached. I think Buzz is working things out for later in the season(I hope). MU had more than a couple of chances to put it away but didn't, don't know what else to say.

Can anyone give Butler credit for going to the hoop when the opponent is in foul trouble? I scratch this L up as a whattryagonnado? Game.

Butler scored on their last 11 possessions and the only reason they didn't score on the possession before that was because they missed the front end of a one and one.

According to PaintTouches, "Beginning at the 8:03 mark of the second half, when Khyle Marshall took an Andrew Smith pass and dunked to cut Marquette's lead to two, 51-49, Butler scored at least one point on 12 of its final 13 possessions."

Without looking into it, it feels like MU must've also done a good job on its last 12 or so possessions, to have 71-69 lead before Clarke's shot.

Not having Otule defending the paint killed us. I know...he was getting beat off the dribble drive. Well, if Buzz had told him to stay down low, that wouldn't have been a problem. Yes, foul trouble hurt us, but it isn't as though we didn't have options to get around that.
