With the latest realignment of colleges, maybe it's time for us and Georgetown to talk to the ACC. Both of us would offer the same deal to the ACC as Notre Dame -- all sports but football -- and would give a presence in the Washington, DC market lost by Maryland as well as a western outpost that's a natural rival to both Notre Dame and Georgetown.
Look, it's a long-shot, but both schools are strong and we both have some history playing ACC teams. I think it could work and make already the best basketball conference in America, pre-emptive. And I don't care what people say, ACC football doesn't make me want to give up outdoor activities on a crisp fall afternoon the way Big Ten, SEC or Notre Dame might.
I can't imagine Georgetown is feeling much better about this than we are. Their program is facing the same turbulence. Only difference is they're in the DC media market.

Hate to break it to you, but it's every school for itself. Do you think G'town gives two sh*ts about MU at this point? No, they have their own issues. Same with Villanova. I'm sure G'town is trying like heck to find its way into the ACC.
Should be very interesting to see where MU eventually ends up. They bring a lot to the table, but also have some negatives (their smallish TV market).
I, for one, am tired of this garbage in college sports. I don't follow college football...and rarely watch college hoops games that don't involve MU. It wouldn't take much to walk away completely.

I think everyone is tired of it, including fans of college football. Georgetown and MU might be worth more as a package deal, but I think it's highly unlikely that either school ends up in the ACC in the near future. Or any other conference, for that matter.

Can't hurt, and if that fails I'm all for throwing our lot in with a few of the BE football members who will soon be pleading for Big 12 membership after they don't get an ACC invite. I think Hunt is right that our reputation and level of investment is good enough that we'll end up better than Big East Lite or Small Private Conference. Just a big TBD on where and with who.. Our sports profile and competitiveness fits very well with the ACC, our geography and being member #17-#20 doesn't.
It is every school for themselves these days. We need to protect ourselves because doubtful anybody is throwing out a helping hand. Stakes have become too big in last year. Fingers crossed LW & Co. have a plan.
ACC loses the DC market with the Maryland defection, it would make sense for GTown to join if the ACC wanted to add another non-football school. Hate to say it, but MU is ugly stepchild -- GTown gains nothing by locking in with MU.

Agreed. The ACC has always prided itself upon the fact that all schools were within EST and geography stretched from Boston to Miami. They made an exception for ND but they also got 5 games from them per year which is worth a significant amount of money to the member schools. There is absolutely no reason for the ACC to touch Chicago or Milwaukee when Philly (Nova), NYC (SJU) and DMV area (GTown) are still available. It wouldnt make ANY sense. If the ACC wants a hybrid model, we are WAY down the list.
