Title: The Branding of Duke
Post by: LloydMooresLegs on November 13, 2012, 04:20:37 PM
While this is quite an overbearing and highfalutin' confessional (loaded with false naivete), it is interesting to read that Coach K's recruiting pitch leads with the "Duke Brand" (the one other than Elton) and the author's comparison of Coack K and Calipari.

That is a great example of over-writing.  He must be overcompensating for something, because his point gets lost in his prose.

"Young Lacanians and Derrideans, honing their hermeneutic chops under Fredric Jameson and Stanley Fish, could be found cheering alongside preppy, heteronormative undergrads at local bars."

Once i got to that sentence I stopped reading.

I blame coach K. for the defection of Syracuse and Pitt.  He was sick of the Big East brand.  If football in the ACC was going to expand, I am sure he wanted 2 of the best from the Big East.  Now he has three with Notre Dame.
