Title: Ferguson
Post by: Clam Crowder on November 12, 2012, 11:17:01 AM
Buzz found someone with alot of potential in Ferguson. I think he will be alot like Gardner in terms of being a diamond in the rough. His arms are long, and his potential on defense is huge because of it. We saw that with the steal. If he bulks up a little bit he has a ton of potential. Marshon Brooks from Providence is someone with a similar stature very long and wiry. I think he will end up being a very good player in the next couple of years and for someone so deep on the bench I like what I see.

I've read a few people mention is steal and dunk, which was of course very nice, but to me the running one hander that he banked in is more telling of a talented player.  A guy like that at the end of your bench means you have a very deep bench.

^^^ agreed.

Reminds me a bit of TJ Ford.

Now if he gets to that level, we're gonna be going deep into the NCAAs during his years at MU.

Liked what I saw of Ferguson - looks like a smooth player, with a good feel for the game.  Very long too - which Buzz loves.  Form on his shot looks decent too. Definitely a talented 11th man - likely will challenge Jake Thomas for back up minutes behind Vander...

I was wondering if that bank was on purpose or not.

I thought that bank shot looked awkward and ugly.  He looks rough, but like he has a ton of potential upside.

From my couch, it looked purposeful.

It seemed Ferguson knew when he rolled the screen that the big was trending middle and if he went full throttle it would likely get swatted so he checked and laid the perfect bank.

Very impressed with Ferguson.  Thought he looked more comfortable and smooth than Taylor in their first game.

I got the same feeling - I thought Ferguson looked comfortable out there as opposed to Taylor who looks like he hasn't adjusted to the speed of the college game yet.

But does anyone else out there have the feeling that by his junior year, Taylor's body is gonna be looking like Maurice Lucas'. He looked like a true 6'8" and has room for another 20 - 30 pounds of muscle.

Based on Buzz's reaction, I sort of doubt it was on purpose. Buzz was cracking up after that shot fell.

Clearly he knows Ferguson will transfer because of the bank shot.

Taylor does look a little bit like Maurice Lucas, we can only hope he is half as good!

Walking out of theBC last night my brother made the same comment.  Yes, Taylor does have a similar body style, though he will have to fill out more.  As to last night, we should be fair to Steve as Colgate went to small ball by the time Steve ever got into the game.  Hard for him to adjust to that in his first collegiate game.

Ferguson and Gardner from the same part of the state of VA must be some great basketball down there.

I love his potential too, but honestly I'm not sure what people could witness in 8 minutes of action against Colgate to project anything positive or negative about his game for the rest of the season.

You didn't watch him with Boo Williams?

It didn't look like a "good" shot from where I was sitting.  However, he did put it in a position where it could fall.
Glad we had some guys get their first points out of the way.

So let's see...based on 40 minutes against Colgate, we've learned...

  • Jamal Ferguson is a stud that can challenge for minutes this year.
  • The student section is full of idiots with bad cheers ripped off from other schools.
  • Vander Blue is overrated defensively and a detriment on offense.
  • Junior Cadougan couldn't carry Maurice Acker's jock.
  • Steve Taylor is lost and isn't ready for primetime.
  • The student section has been revitalized and is having a positive impact on the game.
  • The new intro sucks.
  • Derrick Wilson should be our starting PG.
.

Juan Anderson is going to be the player of the year.  Jamil Wilson doesn't rebound enough.

Not a Colgate game post.  Thank God, the games have stated.

No one on this thread said Ferguson was a stud haha we all think he has potential. A bit of an overreaction to say he is a stud...no one has said that.

99% of what has been posted in the past 44 hours or so has been overreaction. That's kind of my point.

I think you're overreacting.  It's 98.9%.

Nope, one game against Toothpaste was all we needed.  Someone should be able to simulate the entire season now and save us all the time of watching.  Now we can get back to more important things like the Buzz-Larry relationship and the implications of recruiting that may or may not result in oversigning.

+1.  Some on this board who wanted to predict the roster months from now while Embiid was being recruited were already touting Ferguson as a transfer candidate.  Probably because Ferguson wasn't a top 100 talent.  So people are naturally excited to see what Buzz obviously saw as this kid's potential.
