Title: A chance for some preseason outlandish predictions
Post by: Da 'Lanche on October 13, 2012, 09:32:06 PM
Marquette Madness has officially christened the new season.  No more tin foil hat conspiracy debates....how about everybody taking a stab at an outlier prediction for this season that one thinks is a stretch but may actually happen....you know...like Jake Thomas will get meaningful playing time in a Big East conference game or Chris Otule will stay healthy.....something...anything....

Here is mine for starters:

Mark my prediction now....Vander Blue will have not one, but two triple doubles in BEast play this year.

Next?

Let me be the first to say that you are living up to the outlandish standard you set for this thread.

Here's mine Joel Embiid walks away from the fan mania at KU's MM and turns down Texas and hanging with his buddies at Florida and commits to MU.

Vander Blue will have more driving shots blocked in his face, than 3 pointers made

I hope not. Wilson and Blue are crucial to our 2014 Final Four run.

I think we'll have 5 guys average double-digit scoring for the season -- Lockett, Mayo, Blue, Jamil, and Gardner.

Chico Bail Bonds doesn't reincarnate in some form on this board during the season.  Joke aside, my bet is Jake Thomas gets meaningful minutes during Big East play.

Marquette will lose by 15 to Ohio State in the first game; afterwards  This board will go bonkers, Rumors of Larry Williams wanting to fire buzz commence, frustration with how the players have developed, we will be saying that Vander Blue still cant finish, Jamil Wilson has lost a step, and that our bigs suck.

One month later we will beat Bucky and have only one loss going to conference play and everyone will say we are great and bound for the best run in team history.

Come January we will lose a Conference home game against USF or something and the board will once again revert back to the Larry Williams hates buzz, Aki Collins etc......

We will than beat Louisville at Louisville somehow and all the sudden we are better than the '97 Bulls, even Bruce Bowen couldnt guard Vander Blue, Trent Lockett is the greatest transfer ever.

We will than somehow get a 6 seed, and be paired up with an underachieving SEC, Pac-12, Big 12, or ACC team.  We will see the names on the front of their jerseys and crap our selves.  We lose by 10 after blowing a 15 point lead.   Board goes crazy.

Some high profile job will open up. The local beat writer for that cities small town paper will somehow have Buzz name on a short list.  It will get posted here.  Cue up the Larry Williams Conspiracy.

The story will get "legs" and we will discuss who will be the next coach; bring up names of coaches like Bob Knight, Steve Lavin, or guys who could not get in a 1000 years like Calipari, or Shaka Smart.

There will be a 60 page thread on what will happen when coach goes....

Coach eventually Stays.

We will end up taking on more scholarships than we can use.....Someone like Dawson or Juan anderson will transfer.....Badger fans and some of the old stody alumni say "This isnt good for the program"......  Guys like Myself will say "This is how you play with the big boys"  "Winning is the most important" etc.....

Otule Gets injured in a freak Jet Skiing accident with his Badger Girl Friend.......

Marquette's schedule gets released....We all bash it for lack of Weekend and prime time home games.....

2013-2014 season starts.

Following a loss to OSU, MU will rattle off 12 straight, will enter conference play #6 in the AP, and lost in ESPN's Super Bowl Coverage following the #1 vs. #2 match-up in Louisville on February 3 will be a comment from Jay Bilas making a case that Marquette and Louisville should both be invited to the ACC.

Edit: When Rece Davis questions the logic of having one basketball-only team in the ACC, Jay will respond along the lines of "You can't be the best basketball conference of all time without including the legacy of either John Wooden or Al McGuire, and we all know that UCLA isn't going anywhere."

- Jamil Wilson averages a double-double
- Six players average double-figures scoring
- Marquette is ranked in the top 10 at some point in the season

Am I the only one who thinks we're going to struggle this year?  Maybe sneak in the Tourney as an 11 or 12 seed.....I just don't see us able to compete with OSU, Florida, Texas/UNC (if we beat Butler).....Maybe finish 500 in the BE.  Too may people are not seeing the forest for the trees, but I'm only an NBA scout so what do I know..... :)

Seeing as how you're not an NCAA scout, I'd say MU will be just fine.
