I need video of Jake winning the slam dunk contest last night! I'll bet he's absolutely trash talking his teammates at practice today and getting a little 'go for it' wink from Buzz.
Have to say the most impressive thing was one of the student managers "throwing" a perfect alley oop facing away from the hoop by flicking it up off of a stump of one arm. I apologize for the awkward wording, but not sure how to describe it. Have to say it was impressive, and pretty neat of Jake to include the manager in a couple of his dunks.
I was surprised and impressed by Jake's athleticism.
Yes - looks quite studly. :)
I thought Jamil's between the legs dunk (like Dom and Wes) was more impressive, but Jake Thomas' dunks were fantastic.
As I stated after last year's MM, I don't think Jake's athleticism is limited to a point where he has no chance of defending, as many have assumed.

Somebody who won the dunk contest is very athletic. He is a senior basically after the transfer year. He played in 50 or 60 games at that Dakota school, had a year off to improve,
has he improved enough to get legitimate minutes this year? Or when Syracuse plays that zone against us, his he a viable zone breaker? Does he look stronger than last year?
I always said he was better than people said he was. There is a certain faction here that refuse to believe that a white walk on can play. I maintained from the start of last year's pro am that he was better than Jamil Jones. Jones is slightly taller, quicker and can jump higher than Jake Thomas, but Thomas was clearly the better shooter and more versatile player.
Well, it isn't racial for me. I just don't think a guy who was an average player at USD is going to be more than a marginal contributor for a BCS team. I mean, he could have a performance like Jones did v. the Bearcats last year. But I don't think there will be more than that.
I thought Thomas kept up very well with Mayo on defense at Madness.

Sultan, so you are saying a kid can not improve to be at a BCS level. Are you serious, I bet if you spent a little time researching this, that there are many who make the jump and probably go on to the NBA. I can think of one kid who you will be seeing tonight is JJ Watt. Central to Wisconsin. Lets see how it plays out? He had a year to work on his game against so called
top tier recruits. I bet he has improved, and you must admit he is much more athletic than most walk-ons. I wonder if Buzz gave him a second year scholarship this year or not? Does anybody know about that?

I'd assume Jake would be getting a scholarship since there is two open ones.
If and when Jake gets a scholarship, I'm sure it will be announced.

For sure. That good press never goes without a release, not Friday afternoon material.
Maybe Swanson or Flood will outplay Jake for it.

I'd imagine that's very unlikely.

One can dream right? Just like Jake's dreaming about being a regular contributor?
Maybe Jake, Swanson & Flood will split the two scholarships between the three of them.

I'm virtually certain that you can't split scholarships in D1 Mens basketball.

Maybe he was...I honestly don't know. You can split scholarships in most D1 men's sports, so I thought maybe he was serious.
