With the Packers travesty last night, one of the interesting questions raised is what was the worst officiating call ever made? Mine go to two Marquette games, one of which the refs cost MU a shot at a National Title. Mine are:
The 1971 Ohio State game, when the refs claimed Allie McGuire was out of bounds. The turnover cost Marquette the game and a chance at the NCAA Championship that year.
The 1978 Miami of Ohio nightmare. The refs were wrong but Marquette never should have let Miami get anywhere close to them. It should have been a 30 point blow-out, refs not withstanding.
What do you all think?

Honorable Mention: Don Majkowski being over the LOS on his game-winning TD against the Bears.

Brett Hull disallowed goal.
Jim Joyce screwing Gallaragas out of a perfect game.
At least he had the decency to apologize.
I figured we were just talking about MU games.
For me it was when Steve Logan clearly pushed off and drained a 3 to beat us "back in the day"

This will be a strange one, but one of the things that bothered most about officials was that game a few years back when we lost at Tennessee when one of their big forwards just killed us. Forget his name. Anyway, after every Tennessee basket they could Tennessee would grab the ball out of the net and throw it to the ref to keep us from running off the made basket as we were prone to do in the 3 Amigos era. They did this with no repercussions. Then midway through the second half we did the same thing and they stopped the game and made a big show of giving us a warning not to do it again.
Didn't really matter to the game, but that really bothered me.
It's be interesting to also add: Terrible call that went in favor of your team. For example...
As a Bears fan, it would be the Calvin Johnson reversed TD, Week 1, 2010.
On a much bigger scale, Jordan's push-off on Bryon Russell.

Best Bear moment ever. This is the day after my brothers wedding. All the Chicago cousins are watching the game with all the Packer cousins. The Chicago cousins were very quiet.

I was living in the Schroeder at the time and there was about a 60/40 ratio of Bears/Packers fans among the students. Each time the call was changed, the Bears fans or PAckers fans would get in the face of the other teams fans. It was crazy and memorable.

I kinda wished that when Green Bay was told to come back out for the extra point, they would have said, "no," just like the 1972 team did when they refused their bogus silver medals. The Packers should have told the refs, "forget it.... you screwed us, now you want us to say, "thank you?""
If the Packers had come on the field, they should have turned their backs to the play and folded their arms in protest of a very bad call.

He was most definitely over the line. Last night's debacle was pretty funny. I guess what goes around comes around...20+ years later...and against a different team ;)
I'm sure Higgins, burr, and hightower have something up their sleves to bring attention to themselves again.

That sequence is burnt on a DVD and is safely stored in my fire safe at home. That way, if a Bears fan ever breaks into my house and steals my most valuable and irreplaceable possessions, it is I who will have the last laugh.
Back on topic; not necessarily a bad call but just bad officiating... I believe it was vs. Notre Dame on Senior Day a couple years ago... loose ball knocked into the back court, destined to go out of bounds on ND & MU ball; Burr doesn't get out of the way, deflects the ball keeping it in bounds, ND recovers, scores, and goes on to win in OT. Have I recalled that correctly?
The worst call in my MU history was the Diener foul in the '04 home Louisville game. I'm not sure who made it, but replay showed him standing there doing nothing. There was a big conference about who the foul should be on. Mason then won it 10 seconds later.
Probably not the worst but the most vivid recent MU call was when Acker got mugged on a 3 to finish the MU-Mizzou game in the NCAA's.
Buzz covered his mouth and chewed out the official, though we were down 4, intense game.
